Figured since it’s Sunday, I’d take us to church.

This concept makes me think of Colossians 3:23.

About two and a half years ago, I was sitting in church when our pastor asked, “Are you doing what you’ve been called to do?”

Then came the part that stuck with me.

The vine can be alive and growing, and still not produce fruit.

Sometimes we’re so focused on what’s next that we miss where we’re planted right now.

Maybe the chair matters. Maybe the people around you matter. Maybe this season is preparing you for the next one.

Do good work. Get really good at your craft. Love people well. Use what’s already in your hands.

Grow where you’re planted.

Produce some freaking fruit. 👏🏻

Love ya.

I’ve worked in this industry for 18 years, and one thing I wish more stylists understood is that there really is a salon for everyone.

The goal isn’t to find the salon everyone else thinks is cool.

It’s to find the place that makes sense for the career and life YOU actually want.

And then give it a real chance.

You’re going to have frustrating days anywhere. You’re going to disagree with people. You’re going to lose motivation. You’re going to have seasons where you question everything. 😂

That doesn’t automatically mean you chose wrong.

Vet the salon hard on the front end. Ask questions. Shadow. Look at the people who are already doing what you want to do.

Then, when you find a place where you can grow, be supported, make money, serve people well and become more valuable, stay long enough to see what you can actually build.

Save this if you’re looking for your next salon. ❤️

Yes, we’re talking about hormones. And yes, we’re talking about my butt. 😂

Except apparently hormone pellets don’t actually go IN your butt. They go right above it. Important distinction that Whitney had to explain to me while I continued to make butt jokes.

I’ve been seeing Whitney Langford, NP at Elite Wellness + Aesthetics for hormone replacement, and she has been AMAZING.

If you don’t know Whitney Langford, APRN, FNP-BC, you should.
(She’s The Social A Hair Salon • Owasso, OK Extension Experts’s private injector)

Ladies, as we get older, our hormones can start changing, and those changes can show up in ways you may not immediately connect to hormones. Energy, sleep, mood, brain fog, libido and just generally not feeling quite like yourself can all be reasons to have a conversation with a qualified provider and get your levels checked.

For me, hormone replacement has made a huge difference in how I feel. Obviously everyone is different, and HRT is something you need to discuss with a medical provider based on your symptoms, labs, history and individual risks.

And Whitney does SO much more than hormones.

Elite Wellness + Aesthetics offers hormone and wellness care, peptide therapy, medical weight management, Botox/toxins, dermal filler, laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, hair restoration, medical-grade skincare and more.

Basically, she can help you feel better AND look better. 😂

Whitney is incredibly knowledgeable, she actually educates you on what’s happening in your body, and I’ve felt very taken care of through the entire process.

You can buy the class. You can buy the tools. You can pay for the mentor.

But you cannot buy the reps.

At some point, you have to actually do the hair.

You have to section it. Formulate it. Place the foils. Cut the line. Install the extensions. Have the hard consultation. Fix the mistake. Do it again.

That’s how you earn the stat.

And I think this matters just as much for salon owners. Before you can confidently lead someone somewhere, you should have some receipts that you’ve actually been there.

Competency. Skill. Revenue. Data. Demand.

The title isn’t what holds you up. Those pillars do.

I’ve filled plenty of potholes learning this 😂 and I’ll probably fill a few more.

But there really isn’t a shortcut.

Get the education. Find great mentors. Learn everything you can.

Then go do it.

And tomorrow, do it 1% better.

So dang proud of this team 🖤 The Social A Hair Salon • Owasso, OK Extension Experts

We spend almost as much time in the salon as we do at home. So why wouldn’t we want to make it a place full of support, growth and people who genuinely want to see each other win?

Yes, culture starts with the salon owner. Leadership sets the standard. But you can be the difference too.

Help someone when there is absolutely nothing in it for you. Sweep their station because they’re behind. Grab their towels. Help with a shampoo. Answer the question. Celebrate their win. Step in when you see someone drowning instead of thinking “that’s not my job.”

Then watch the domino effect.

Someone remembers that you helped them, so next time they see someone struggling, they help them. Then that person does the same. Before you know it, you’ve created a team where people actually look out for each other.

And it changes your actual life.

The hard days aren’t as hard. People grow faster. Work feels lighter. You stop feeling like you have to do everything alone.

And guess who ultimately benefits from all of it? The client.

They walk into a salon where people aren’t worried about who gets credit or whose job it is. Everyone is working together to make sure everyone succeeds.

That’s culture.

You don’t have to be the salon owner to start changing it.

Be the first domino. Watch what happens.

When your model face is more like an angry guitar face 👀..

Fall blonde is officially in full swing. We love new hair day. 🤍
Thank you so much Grace West and EMERSON | OWASSO HAIRSTYLIST

Creamy blondes, richer dimension, longer hair, fuller ends… this is the season for a little transformation.

And if you’ve been thinking about extensions, consider this your sign. One row can add the fullness and length that completely changes your hair without feeling like you have a ton of hair on your head. We have every color and length.

This install? Approximately 30 minutes with two highly trained extension stylists working together. Comfortable from day one, concealed placement and ponytail friendly.

Come try the hair on first. We’ll match your color, play with lengths and show you exactly what’s possible before you commit.

Fall appointments are happening right now.

People problems are probably the hardest part of owning a salon, or really any business.

I’ve learned that avoiding the hard conversation doesn’t help anyone. Not them. Not you. And definitely not the rest of the team.

Set the expectation. Give them the tools. Coach them. Check back in. Coach them again if you need to.

But at some point, they have to want it too.

You cannot want someone’s career more than they do.

And keeping someone in a position where they’re consistently underperforming isn’t kindness. Sometimes good leadership is giving someone every opportunity to rise, and knowing when it’s time to let them go.

“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise.” Proverbs 15:31

Coach them up or coach them out. But don’t leave them sitting in the middle with no direction.

That’s not leadership.

And I’m going to brag on the stylists at The Social for a second because they are absolutely killing it.

It hasn’t always been this way. We’ve had hard seasons, hard conversations, people come and go, and a whole lot of figuring it out along the way.

But the team we have right now? They show up. They’re coachable. They support each other. They care about their clients, their careers, and getting better. And I’m insanely proud of what they’re building.

If you’re in Owasso or the Tulsa area and need a stylist, I have a whole salon full of really freaking talented ones.

Your best stylist shouldn’t need you forever.

If your team can’t make decisions, solve problems, hit goals, or succeed unless you’re standing beside them, you haven’t built leadership. You’ve built a bottleneck.

It’s a lot like parenting.

In the beginning, they need you for everything. You teach. You correct. You answer 4,000 questions.

But eventually, the goal is for them to trust themselves.

Good leadership isn’t creating people who depend on you.

It’s coaching people so well that they can succeed without you, then watching them turn around and do the same for someone else.

That’s how you stop building a business around yourself and start building something that can actually grow beyond you.

That’s leadership.

Teach them.
Trust them.
Let them lead.

And eventually, let them teach someone else.

And if you want to book with any of the amazing stylists we’ve had the privilege of coaching at The Social A Hair Salon • Owasso, OK Extension Experts, visit our website at www.thesocialowasso.com.
