I had to color correct my own work 🫠
Talk about HUMBLING.

My client wanted pops of hot pink—not neon, not bubblegum—so I chose a pink with a slight purple undertone.

LOL.

She pulled PURPLE. Like Barney magenta purple. 💜

This girl has trusted me with her hair for 8–9 years, and THANK GOD because she wasn’t even slightly worried. Meanwhile, I was ready to set my license on fire. 😂

But this is what I do. I do color corrections. I know color theory. I can do hard things. (Thanks for the reminder, Mav 🥹)

So we went to remove the Barney magenta…

AND TURNED TURQUOISE.
BLUE 👏🏼 AND 👏🏼 GREEN 👏🏼

Yay vivids. 🫠

Back to Color Theory 101:

❤️ Red neutralizes green
🧡 Orange neutralizes blue

Instead of throwing more bleach at it, I needed to neutralize what I was actually seeing.

I used Redken Shades EQ 9CR + Clear + Processing Solution…

AND 👏🏼 IT 👏🏼 WORKED 👏🏼

Test strand with lightener? No green. 🙌🏼
Jesus loves me. 😂🙏🏻

Then we went in with a BRIGHT ASS PINK. No purple. Not a trace. 😂💗

Her friends are officially calling her Lava Girl and we’re obsessed. 🔥

Experience doesn’t mean nothing unexpected happens. It means knowing when to stop, reassess, go back to color theory, test before committing, and protect the hair while figuring it out.

By the end? I was really freaking proud of myself.

From box-dye red ➝ bright, dimensional blonde 🤯

This one was a PROCESS.

She came to me after years of red box dye + using color remover at home to start fading it out, with the ultimate goal of getting back to a bright, icy blonde.

We knew going into it that hair history like this means we’re working with what the hair gives us — not forcing it just to hit a certain shade.

For 3.5 hours, I foiled, checked, pulled foils, re-foiled, checked again… basically played musical chairs with foils 😂 all while protecting the integrity of her hair…..

Actually, her hair felt better after, than it did before coming in🤩

We ended up meeting right in the middle of her two inspo photos: bright blonde, soft dimension, and a subtle root melt for a more forgiving grow-out.

And THIS was session one. 👏🏼

Going blonde after box dye isn’t always a one-appointment transformation, but when the first session looks this good… I’ll take it. 🤍
