One thing i’d love to chat more on is layers don’t automatically equal volume and movement.

Layers are created by elevating the hair and removing weight at different points, which creates shorter lengths that blend into the longer hair. Where we elevate the hair, how much we elevate it, and where we direct it determines where those layers fall, how much weight is removed, and how much movement the haircut has.

But here’s the important part 👇🏼

✨ Layers are meant to be styled.

If you air-dry your hair or wear it naturally straight with very little styling, your layers may blend together and look much more subtle. That doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t there.

A round-brush blowout, blow-dry brush, rollers, curls, or even a little bend through the ends helps separate and accentuate each layer, giving you that bouncy, dimensional look you see in haircut inspiration photos.

And the more dramatic the inspiration photo, the more likely it is that styling is doing part of the work.

So when choosing your layers, think about your everyday routine too.
