Malia🩷 was a perfectly normal three year-old little girl running around playing having fun like any other normal kid until one day…
One day She had a random cough, mom took her to the hospital, just trying to get ahead of whatever it was hoping that it wasn’t RSV. Doctor’s tested her for everything they could think of yet, nothing came up. Atleast not anything that they could track with testing. They told mom to get over-the-counter meds and she will be fine. She slept the rest of that day and for the next few days she just was really really sleepy and wasn’t getting better, so mom called Malia’s pediatrician and scheduled an appointment and later took her in.
At the appointment they checked her, and told mom that she has pneumonia, they sent Malia home with amoxicillin so mom was giving her the amoxicillin over a few days, and scheduled Malia a follow up. Fast forward a few days later, she still wasn’t getting any better, she was still sleeping a lot to the point where it was concerning mom . During that time Malia was also complaining of belly pain, so mom took her to the emergency room assuming that she was constipated from the amoxicillin that she’s been giving Malia, only to later find out her belly Pain was in fact not from the amoxicillin. It was from her organs failing, that was her body‘s way of giving off signs letting them know that Malia’s body was giving up!
Thank God mom did take her back that night! After weeks of unanswered symptoms, she was rushed to the ICU, placed on life support, and had to relearn how to walk and talk. Despite months of medication and multiple surgeries, her heart continued to fail. Now at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Malia is living with a Berlin Heart and waiting for a life-saving heart transplant. As of December 12th, we have been waiting six months for the call that could save her life.
Please continue to follow us as we share Malia’s story 💕🫶🏾
