This patient wanted a refined nose that remained very much hers. Through the closed approach, every incision is inside the nostril, so there is no external scar. We refined the profile and balanced the nose with the rest of her face.

A year out is when I like to share results when possible. Swelling has largely resolved, the tip has settled, and what you see is the true outcome.

Not everyone is a candidate for a closed approach. The right technique depends on your anatomy and your goals, and that’s what a consultation is for.

This patient of mine suffers from Parry-Romberg Syndrome, in which the tissues of one side of the face begin to thin and atrophy. It’s believed that this disease may be autoimmune but we still don’t fully know what causes it! The most common age of onset is in the teen years, but I have multiple patients such as this, in whom symptoms began in their late twenties.

In his reconstruction, we employed some techniques which are reconstructive in nature, such as facial implant augmentation. We also employed techniques which are more traditionally cosmetic, such as fat grafting. I tell patients (really anyone who will listen) that the line between cosmetic and reconstructive work is a dotted one. This is why I find value in choosing a surgeon with a large arsenal of techniques to help you achieve your goals.

This beauty underwent a deep plane face and neck lift with fat transfer nine months ago.

The changes to look at here:
—Neckline: a cleaner, more defined contour from jaw to neck
—Marionette lines: softer, with less shadowing around the mouth
—Jawline: better definition along the lower face
—Volume: both the lift and balanced subtle fat transfer restored fullness that had been lost in the midface

A deep plane lift repositions the deeper facial tissues rather than just tightening skin and does the heavy lifting here, while fat transfer replaces volume selectively to soften a result. The goal is a result that looks like her, rested and refreshed.

Precision starts before the first incision. Grateful for Itzel Torres and the meticulous care she puts into every in-office procedure setup. Sterile, organized, exact. It’s the small details that set the tone for great outcomes. 🙌

Rhinoplasty 6 months post-op

One of the most rewarding parts of this work is helping patients feel more at home in their own face. This patient came in hoping for a nose that felt more balanced with her delicate features. She is happy and so are we!

Every rhinoplasty is different because every face is different. If you’ve been considering it, the best next step is usually just a conversation.

First time using the Symani microsurgical robot. A part of my practice which is less often on Instagram is facial reconstruction using microvascular free tissue transfer. This requires suturing of vessels that are on the order of millimeters. Rush is the first hospital in Illinois to employ this technology for our patients.

Breathing better AND loving her reflection even more ✨

This patient came to us wanting to finally breathe freely through her nose, while softening a dorsal hump and refining her tip into something more delicate and balanced. Watching her confidence grow throughout this journey has been such a rewarding part of our job, she is somehow even more stunning.

Tasteful rhinoplasty, when executed well, can be both beautiful and functional.

One of my favorite patients whose appearance now matches her bright personality. At this point I think I’ve met (and sometimes performed surgery for) her entire family! She underwent deep plane facelift, upper & lower blepharoplasty, temple brow lift, fat transfer, and buccal fat reduction for one comprehensive facial rejuvenation, real results.

This isn’t a quick fix. A deep plane facelift repositions the underlying facial structures (not just the skin), which is why the results look natural, not “pulled.” Paired with eyelid rejuvenation, a brow lift for the upper third of the face, fat transfer for lost volume, and buccal fat reduction for a more refined lower face — this is full-face harmony, not a single procedure treating a single symptom.

Every patient’s anatomy, goals, and timeline are different. The best way to know what’s right for you is a real conversation to be had.

Before & After | Skin Cancer Resection → Facial Reconstruction | 6 Weeks Post-Op

This gentleman underwent Mohs excision of a facial skin cancer resulting in a complex defect spanning multiple facial subunits including the upper lip (vermillion, red and white lip), the philtrum, nasal base, columella, partial ala, and the infraorbital subunits. As you can imagine, this area is not easily restored using skin grafts or other more basic maneuvers. The thick, oily, sun-exposed cheek skin requires a more invasive reconstruction.

In his case, I used a red lip bucket handle bipedicled advancement, a large V-Y cheek flap, a small skin graft into the nasal vestibule, contralateral upper lip flap, and contralateral symmetric alar flare reduction.

What you see here is only 6 weeks post-operative.
I had initially advised this patient that we would need 3 or more stages to achieve a reasonable outcome due to the defect complexity and his heavy smoking, but he is continuing to surprise me with excellent early healing.

Still ahead on his road to completion:
-Dermabrasion of facial scars for smoother blending
-Hair transplantation into the mustache region
-Full scar maturation over the coming months

I’ve had so many of you reach out asking me to share more reconstructive cases like this one and I hear you! It is truly some of the most meaningful and rewarding work we do, and I’m committed to sharing more of these journeys with you.
