More dimension, less warmth and a softer grow-out!

She wanted to see a noticeable change without committing to something high maintenance. The goal was to create more dimension throughout her mids and ends while keeping everything on the cooler side!

Lowlights with wella 5/0 colortouch

Let’s talk about creating cool toned brunettes! 🎨

The key isn’t just choosing an ashy toner. It’s understanding the underlying warmth and lifting the hair to the right level to create the canvas needed for those cooler tones.

Where we started!

I used the foil placement I recently learned from Erin Ray 🖤 CT HAIR at the Independent Beauty Show and incorporated lowlights to break up her previous color line.

The goal was to soften that transition while creating a more dimensional, lived-in brunette that will grow out beautifully! 🤎

One thing you may have noticed throughout this series is just how much time we spend talking!

And that’s intentional.

I think one of the most important parts of any color journey, especially grey blending or color corrections, is continuing to consult with your client throughout the entire process.

Just because we created a plan at the beginning doesn’t mean that plan can’t change along the way.

Grey blending can be especially tricky because we’re asking someone who’s spent years covering their grey to start embracing it. And sometimes, once they actually start seeing more of it, they realize they’re not quite as comfortable with it as they thought they’d be. And that’s okay!

My job isn’t just to get her to a certain hair color. It’s to educate her on her options, explain why we’re doing what we’re doing, and make sure we’re working toward something she actually feels comfortable with.

Sometimes a step in the process might even feel like we’re going backwards, which is why I think explaining the why behind each appointment is so important.

As hairstylists, we may understand the bigger picture, but that doesn’t automatically mean our clients do.

And I think that’s where communication can make all the difference between a client feeling disappointed with where they’re at and understanding that they’re still working toward their goal.

Even if someone’s been sitting in your chair for years, keep asking questions. Keep checking in. Keep having those conversations.

What an unforgettable experience at the Independent Beauty Show! 🥹🤍

My first ever beauty show, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! There’s something so inspiring about stepping outside of your everyday routine and surrounding yourself with people who share the same passion as you. Getting to connect with so many talented artists was definitely one of my favorite parts of the weekend!

Shout out to Steve Messenger for putting together this incredible show and a HUGE thank you to Erin Ray 🖤 CT HAIR for giving me the opportunity to assist her on stage! Such an incredible experience and something I’m so grateful to have been a part of.

And to top it all off, I was nominated for TWO Independent Beauty Awards and ended up taking home an award!!!!

What makes this even more special is that I was actually born in Rochester, NY, so coming back to the place where my life began and receiving the first award of my career feels like such a full-circle moment.

This weekend was such a reminder to keep showing up, putting yourself out there, and believing in what you’re working toward. Keep going, even when you can’t see where it’s all leading. You never know what opportunities are waiting for you. 🤍

Feeling so grateful, inspired, and excited for what’s ahead!

Reminder that grey blending is a journey and sometimes you have to work backwards before you can move forward. 🤍

When Nelsy first came to me in February, she had years of dark permanent/box color and a goal of eventually coming into the salon less frequently.

Her 2nd highlight appointment was only 5 weeks ago. Before we could even get here, we spent months touching up her roots with demi-permanent color, letting her hair grow and giving it time to recover so we could create a better canvas to work with.

This past highlight finally lifted enough of that old permanent color for us to start changing direction but because maintaining the integrity of her hair has always been the priority, today wasn’t about highlighting her again just because we could.

Instead, we glazed her and gave her hair a break. At her next appointment, we’ll begin adding lowlights to break up the lightness and start creating the blending we’ve been working toward.

Sometimes achieving the goal means prepping the canvas first. For Nelsy, we needed to use highlights to kick out as much of that old dark color as safely as possible before we could actually begin building her grey blending plan.

It’s been a process, but we’re finally at the point where we can pivot and that’s what makes this part so exciting. 🤍

Healthy hair first. The goal second. And sometimes, going slower is exactly what gets you there

I’m beyond grateful for how much love and support you’ve all shown me this year. With my availability filling up so quickly for the holiday season, I really want to make sure I’m protecting availability and energy for the clients who have already trusted me with their hair and giving you as much availability, care & attention as I can during such a busy time. 🫶🏼

This also means that when I do welcome new color clients, I can give them the time and attention they deserve too, rather than trying to squeeze them into an already full season.

My books aren’t completely closed! If you’ve already been in my chair, you’re an existing client and can continue booking as usual. New haircut & styling clients are still welcome, and any color consultations already scheduled are all set! 🤍

New color consultations will reopen January 2027. ✨

Thank you endlessly for keeping my chair full and continuing to support me. I appreciate you all more than you know. 🤍

It’s so easy to get caught up in what’s next. The next goal, the next milestone, what could be better, what could be bigger.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking ahead that we forget to look around and appreciate how far we’ve already come. Running a business can be stressful, overwhelming and a lot to carry sometimes, but then I think about this little girl and how excited she would be to know where we ended up.

I’m so grateful for everything I’ve built and for every person who has helped me get here. There will always be another goal to chase, but I’m learning that it’s okay to stop for a second, soak it all in and be proud of what I’ve already accomplished too. 🤍
