​I was just educating someone on this today, and most people have no idea how heavily anesthesia and major medical procedures impact your hair.
​Here is what actually happens:
​1️⃣ Post-Surgical Shedding (Telogen Effluvium):
Major stress on the body—like going under general anesthesia—shocks your hair follicles. It forces a large percentage of actively growing hairs straight into the "resting" phase. Because the hair cycle operates on a delay, you won't see the shedding right away; it hits roughly 2 to 4 months after surgery.
​2️⃣ Color Banding & Chemical Shifts:
Your hair is a literal history record of your body's internal state. Sudden physiological shifts, heavy medications, and anesthesia can alter the natural porosity, texture, and oil production of the hair shaft as it grows out. When we go to lighten or color that section later, it can react differently—creating subtle "banding" or uneven lift that requires a custom corrective approach.
