In 1669, an alchemist boiled p*e for 2 weeks straight and ended up discovering our 15th element on the periodic table: phosphorus Alchemist, Hennig Brandt, literally identified the P in “p*e”! This story is nutso. WT Stead, often called the father of investigative journalism, ended up being known for something else: the man who predicted his death on the Titanic…26 beforehand. Stead always spoke of a premonition that he would die by drowning. He then later wrote two stories in the paper. The first about a ship that sunk after a collision with another ship. The second story was 6 years later about a ship that struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic, which also sunk. Many lives were lost due to not having enough lifeboats. Years later, Stead is a first class passenger on the Titanic. He was due to be in New York to speak at Carnegie Hall at the request of President Taft, but that would never come to be… Stead died by drowning in the freezing North Atlantic waters. His body was never recovered. But did Stead actually have a premonition? I’ll let you decide.
