COMBO BROW ❤️ a combo brow is created by tattoo machine using a mix of techniques between ombre powder and hairstrokes

This technique is great for clients that are looking for a result bolder than nano hairstrokes alone and want to keep hairlike texture at the front of their eyebrows.

By shading the ends of the brows, we hold onto shape and structure in a way that mimics brow makeup and toward the front, we feather in some hairstrokes to blend into the brow

What are tapered hairstrokes—and why do they matter? 🫪

One of the biggest benefits of nano hairstroke technique is the ability to strategically build more color through the midsection of each stroke while keeping both ends lighter and finer.

Real brow hairs aren’t equally thick or dark from root to tip and to create a more hairlike result, we’re trying to recreate that illusion as well!

When the beginning and end of each stroke taper softly, the overall brow has more texture and less of a defined outline. As the pigment heals and fades over time, those delicate ends can also soften and shrink into the natural brow hair more seamlessly, helping the strokes maintain a more hair-like appearance rather than resembling makeup.

Nano hairstroke technique and theory have evolved so much. The goal is no longer to simply place lines inside a brow shape—it’s to create dimension, movement, and the illusion of natural hair growth.

A makeup-style brow typically gets its definition from stronger edges: a sharpened lower border, a more defined tail, or an overall filled-in appearance and Hairstrokes are intended to look different. They should create the illusion that you grew more brow hair not filled them in entirely.

For this client, we added length and softened some of the natural arch to create a longer, straighter brow.

She shared that she had always struggled to achieve this shape with makeup alone, especially when trying to extend the brows without making them look obviously drawn on—so she was looking for a more permanent solution.

Adjusting someone’s natural brow shape with permanent makeup can be tricky, especially when the goal is to keep the result light, soft, and undetectable. The farther we work outside of the natural hair growth, the more carefully every added stroke has to be placed. The direction, spacing, density, and transition all need to make sense with the client’s existing brow hair.

The goal isn’t simply to draw a new shape around the natural brow. It’s to recreate the illusion of natural growth while still respecting what is already there. ❤️

Every single client comes in saying the word “NATURAL” and over the years, I’ve come to learn the key to client success is making sure you and your client are on the same page about what NATURAL means TO THEM.

For this client who rarely fills in her eyebrows, doesn’t get them frequently shaped/threaded/waxed, and doesn’t wear makeup regularly, natural to her probably means:

✅ not overly structured (no sharp arches or harsh fronts)
✅ not too foreign from her natural shape (no permanent makeup pigment far away from her natural hairs)
✅ a color match exactly to her brow hair type
✅ easy to maintain on her own (not much hair plucking needed)
✅ matches her no makeup days

Permanent makeup can’t remove the scar or eliminate the texture but it can create the illusion of a fuller, smoother brow ✨

For this client, we created a soft ombré powder brow—nothing too dark, just a subtle tint-like finish. Adding soft, even color helps disguise the way light and shadows emphasize the indentation. The scar is still there, but it blends much more seamlessly into a fuller-looking brow

Scar tissue can hold pigment differently, so it’s completely normal for the area to heal lighter and need extra attention at the touch-up. We never work deeper or more aggressively to force the color in, because that can cause blurring, migration, or blowout.

Slow and steady = prettier, safer results 🤍

When I get a client like this, that naturally has a lot of hair and relatively strong shape, my top recommendation is ombre powder ❤️

This client came in and said that she was open to ALL techniques! She really said whatever I recommend let’s go with 🥹🙏🏼

She could have been a great candidate for nano hairstrokes too, but because she loves the fuller, softly defined shape that she gets from a brow tint, Ombré Powder was the better match for her goals.

Nano would add individual hairlike strokes, while Ombré Powder creates a soft shadow of color behind and between her natural brow hairs mimicking fullness (less gaps, and less skin showing between her hair)

This enhances the shape she already loves and has, fills in lighter areas and gives her that polished, freshly tinted look—without making the brows look harsh or solid.

Sometimes a client is suitable for more than one technique! The best choice depends on the type of result she wants to see every day, and for her, Ombré Powder created the biggest impact while still looking natural 😍

My goal isn’t to give you the darkest brows possible on day one. It’s to create a beautiful base that gets you as close to your goals as possible while still respecting your natural brows.

The more we try to dramatically change your natural shape (especially on bare skin), the more pigment is needed to support those changes.

MORE CHANGE = MORE COLOR.

That’s why I prefer a gradual approach whenever possible.

I always tell my clients that when they leave their first appointment, their brows should only be SLIGHTLY darker than where we want them to heal.

If your healed goal is a soft makeup look, your fresh brows should look similar to (or just a touch darker than) the makeup you already wear. As they heal and soften, they settle into a result that feels familiar—not shocking.

If you ever want more definition, it’s always easier to add at your touch-up than wish we had done less.

Always send clear photos of any previous brow work BEFORE booking ‼️

This client had ombré powder brows done years ago. Because the pigment had faded enough—especially through the fronts—we were able to safely blend and cover the remaining color.

Based on how they faded, ombré powder is the best technique to ensure an even finish (no hairstrokes). Nano hairstroke technique is not suitable in this scenario because although the eyebrows have faded lighter, the patches will still exist in between and underneath all the hair strokes, leaving the final result, less polished and also less seamless.

There is absolutely no shade toward the previous artist, but the way old pigment fades can tell us a lot about the original technique. In this case, the color had faded unevenly, with patchiness throughout and heavier outlines around the shape. This usually indicates that the pigment was not deposited evenly into the skin.

During our first session, we completely remapped and reshaped her brows to improve symmetry, soften the old outline and blend the remaining pigment into a smoother, more even finish.

Adding more color does not mean applying more pressure. Experienced technique is about building pigment gradually through controlled, consistent layers. This creates a softer result now and helps the brows fade more evenly years later.
