On April 28, 2026, Fulani jihadists stormed an open-air Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) crusade and night vigil in Eda Oniyo community, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State. They killed the officiating pastor who had come from Osun State to minister, then abducted 15 worshippers, including women, children as young as toddlers, and an 84-year-old woman. The victims endured over 67 days of hell in the bush. The women were gang-r**ed and tortured, the children were starved, and all of them suffered severe torture, starvation, and brutal abuse. Tragically, the 84-year-old woman died in captivity as a result of the gang r**e, torture, starvation, and inhumane treatment she endured. The jihadists initially demanded one billion naira ransom, which the community struggled to negotiate down while paying over 10 million naira plus other items, yet the hostages remained in captivity for months. By the grace of God, the 14 surviving victims were finally released around midnight on July 3, 2026.
