Smooth Endings is Moving!

Dear Clients,

I’m very happy to say that I’m back to work following my hand surgery! I’m feeling much better and especially happy to be getting back to seeing all of you.

I also have some important news to share: Beginning October 1, 2026, Smooth Endings will have a new home.

I want to tell you a little about this decision, because after six years at The Roulston House, I know a move may come as a surprise.

I moved into this space immediately after Governor Cuomo lifted the 18-month moratorium on aesthetic businesses during COVID. Although I was mandated to close and unable to work during that time, there were legal protections in place that could have allowed me to hold onto my space, but that wasn't how I wanted to approach things. I’ve always believed in working, paying my way, and taking responsibility for my commitments, but I could no longer afford to carry both my commercial rent and my residential expenses, so I made the difficult decision to give up the space where I had practiced for 32 years and start over.

That brought me to The Roulston House.

It was a significant emotional and financial investment, but I was on a mission.

I chose The Roulston House because it was brand new, conveniently located near public transportation, had plentiful parking, and the ground floor was supposed to become a beautiful neighborhood restaurant and bar. When that fell through, other ideas that would have benefited the neighborhood and my clients were floated, but those fell through as well.

A couple of years ago, I returned to work after a vacation to find something very different. I had been assured that ample parking would be provided for both me and my clients, but as you know, parking is now almost impossible, and many of you have had to Uber to your appointments.

While entering on 9th Street may look and feel the same at first glance, it really isn’t the same environment anymore. So, in 2024, before signing another lease, I weighed whether I should move or simply accept these changes. I decided to give it more time, but recently, I began noticing a chemical smell in my suite, and ultimately decided that the environment I originally chose no longer exists.

This June, I submitted my notice to vacate early—without a plan!

My personal story and general character have forced me to plan everything possible from the age of 13, but I didn’t have a plan—I just knew that it was time to go. Commercial rentals in Gowanus and the surrounding neighborhoods are extremely limited and more expensive than Manhattan. To prepare for the worst-case scenario, I installed the necessary electrical upgrade in my apartment so that I could continue to treat clients if I didn't find a space by August.

Fate, or the universe, outstretched its hand, and as of 09/01/26, a space was secured.

The good news is -- I’m not going far!

My new location in Sunset Park is less than two miles from my current office, close to Industry City, convenient to public transportation, and with plenty of street parking available.

Most importantly, the things that matter most are staying exactly the same: me, my business, the work we do together, and the care I have for all of you.

Moving isn’t easy, but I’m excited—exhausted, but excited. This move may also provide me the opportunity to teach future laser technicians when I'm not caring for you.

After 26 years of experience and training in this field, it would be a privilege to pass what I’ve learned on to those just entering the profession—and to give them the kind of exemplary education and priceless hands-on experience that my own professor gave me in his clinic after the academic course had ended.

Thank you for your patience during my recovery, your loyalty and support, and most importantly, your authenticity! I’m so grateful to know every one of you!

PLEASE, if you need an appointment before the move, text me ASAP. There are a lot of moving parts during the last two weeks of September, so space and time are very limited.

I can’t wait to see you back on my table—and, very soon, in my new home!

I wanted to share an important update with you so that everyone has plenty of notice and time to plan accordingly.

Upcoming Surgery Notice

Many of you know that two years ago I had surgery on my left hand. I’ve been putting off much-needed surgery on my right hand because it requires wearing a hard cast for six weeks, which will completely limit my ability to work—and honestly, I just didn’t want to do it. It was originally supposed to happen last summer, but between my procrastination and all of your laser needs, I kept pushing it off.

The truth is, the cortisone shots have only provided short-term relief, so I finally took a deep breath and scheduled the surgery for 07.30.26.

Dr. Polatsch is the best at what he does, and while he initially told me there were no shortcuts when it came to healing and cast time, he recently mentioned he may be able to use screws instead of pins—which could reduce the cast time to five weeks. Either way, I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice.

Please take a look at your calendars and schedule your appointments accordingly. For clients who don't tan, or those treating areas that won’t be exposed to the sun, booking an appointment right before my surgery will help keep you on track with your treatments :-)

MEET HONEYBUN!

She's a 6 month old labradoodle puppy and weighs about 17lbs.

She and her sister, Diva came from a breeder, but were given up to the rescue because their hair wasn't curly enough to sell at full price.

She's got a deep bark, is a good watchdog, a sound crate sleeper, champion eater, and loves EVERY dog, and human she meets! Billie likes her so much that she lets her sleep on her bed, and thats a first!
We're working on leash training, and she is picking up the basic - sit, come and down commands quickly. She is the perfect balance of puppy fun, and adult chill!
She is non-shedding and most likely going to be in the mid 30lb range when full grown. (Thats my guess) OH! Her belly was shaved because she was spayed AND microchipped!

We've only had her for several days, but I'm sending this info out early as she's attending a large event in Manhattan tomorrow, and these breeds are usually the first to be adopted.

I know its a bit harder to feel thankful this year, as things seem upside-down, and out of our control.
