Did you know there is a luxurious, creamy, soft, & powdery perfume note derived from one of our cities most treasured flowers? ✨
Meet Orris Butter, an extremely rare waxy essential oil carefully extracted from the aged roots of the Iris Pallida. These native wetland flowers have such a profound meaning to us here. Easily recognizable along the banks of the swamp and dotted throughout city park, we’ve always felt that iris has such an elegant presence. A scent reminiscent of voilets, it adds depth to scent while also elongating the wear time of natural perfume. At smoke, we have thoughtfully crafted orris butter into the unique blend of our latest scent: INVOKE.
Orris butter, from the rhizome, or root structure of the iris flower - must mature and age for 3-5 years stored in dry conditions before being harvested for scent workings. If you were to harvest the roots of an Iris plant within the first year of its life, it wouldn’t have much of a scent at all. We really appreciate this aspect as it reminds us that sometimes, something so delightfully beautiful needs space, ease, and time to truly bloom. Invoke has felt that way.
Stay tuned for the official launch date of our upcoming scent Invoke. We can’t wait for you smell her 🌸

A creature of transformation, seasonality & beauty. We feel like butterflies embody an aspect of relationship between humans, time, and the natural world 🦋
We’ve always felt drawn to butterflies - as they are quite fleeting, just like natural scent. A small, living reminder to inhale deeply, and pay attention while we’re here. At Smoke, we look to the natural world for inspiration always 🤍
A perfume can be a little like a butterfly… something wild and ephemeral that lands on the skin, transforms in its own time, and then disappears - leaving only the memory of having been touched. We love that about them ✨

Blossoms trellising up my spine this summer, weaving their way into the folds of my skin. The blooms that have caught my nose have been the thick moon petals of Magnolia, sweet creaminess of gardenia, and delectable sweet olive. This beautiful visual makes me think of the phrase I’m sure we’ve all heard, “grow a backbone” said with distain as if the florals that make up my back aren’t strength in & of itself. As if my softness wasn’t strength at all. Maybe they too forgot, in the strength of softness. I have not and perhaps neither should you 💐

🤍 TUBEROSE (Agave amica, formerly Polianthes tuberosa)
Did you know Tuberose is sometimes referred to as “The Harlot of Perfumery”? In the Victoria era, young and unmarried women were discouraged - and sometimes forbidden from diving their noses into Tuberose as it was said to provoke erotic urges, intense sexual arousal, and even linked to spontaneous or***ms? Obsessed with this!!
✨ Part of its allure comes from indole, a naturally occurring aromatic compound also found in jasmine, orange blossom, and even trace amounts in human skin secretions and breath during intimacy
✨A richly fragrant, night-blooming perennial native to central and southern Mexico known in Aztec culture as Omixochitl, or “bone flower,” it was used to flavor cacao drinks and in sacred floral offerings
✨Tuberose has been treasured in perfumery since the 17th century - and likely much earlier as a botanical used to scent vessels and ritual spaces
✨Today it’s cultivated around the world, especially in Mexico, France, and India, where its intoxicating blooms continue to captivate so many noses!
✨One of the most intensely fragrant flowers, tuberose releases a lush blend of creamy, sweet, and spicy notes that can continue to perfume the air for up to 48 hours after being picked 😍
We’re obsessed with tuberose because it’s one of the most exquisite notes in the new formulation of INVOKE, launching this fall!
Stay tuned for more on INVOKE, our Eau de Parfum rebrand, and the next exciting evolution of Smoke Perfume 🐚

This stunning marsh image reminds me of something I’ve been thinking a lot about around ritual in my own life and within Smoke, is how incredibly simple my own rituals are.
My rituals used to be soooo elaborate back in the day, and that was lovely, but what has stayed all these years are the simple ones, and how the simplicity of them is part of the magic and medicine.
With all that is available to us, and all that we navigate in this world, I’ve really allowed myself to embrace how easy ritual can be & wants to be in this chapter of my life ✨
Sometimes simply sitting my the waters edge, is all the ritual I need 🕯️More on this to come, stay tuned as smoke evolves for simple ritual ideas to implement into your own daily life 🤍
