The Littlest Rebels Get a Shelf
Something Small and Wonderful Has Arrived
Every so often we add something to the salon purely because it made the whole team smile. This is one of those times.
Rebel is now stocking Rockahula Kids, the award-winning British accessories brand beloved around the world, and our new display might be the most charming corner of the salon. Fair warning: it's at kid height, and it's dangerous in the best way.
What's on the Shelf
Sweet headbands in colors and sparkle. Darling little bags sized exactly for small treasures. And the hair clips, oh, the hair clips. Assorted sets that are tiny works of art: black cats with "magic" written across them, fire-breathing dragons for your fiercest little one, and plenty more where imagination clearly ran the design meeting.
With Halloween around the corner, the black cat and dragon clips may not survive the month. Consider this your early warning.
A Brand Worth Loving
Rockahula started in 2013 at a kitchen table in Britain, with founder Harriet designing and packing every order herself. Today the brand is stocked in 65 countries, and the mission hasn't changed: accessories that inspire a creative spirit in children and reflect the way they actually see the world, which is to say, full of magic, dragons and sparkle.
It's exactly the kind of small, thoughtful brand we love bringing to Nicoll Street.
The Gift Answer You Needed
Birthday party this weekend? Need a big-sister gift, a brave-haircut reward, or a just-because treat? This shelf solves all of it in under five minutes, at prices that make "one for the gift and one for us" entirely reasonable.
And between us: the holidays are closer than they feel, and these make perfect stocking stuffers. The parents who know will be stocking up early.
Come Say Hi
Next time you're in for your appointment, take a peek at the display, or bring your little one to pick their own. Watching a kid choose between a magic cat and a dragon is the best thing that happens at the front desk all day.

A Shelf Favorite: Smooth'n Glow by Oway
Some products cycle on and off our shelf. Others never leave. Oway's Smooth'n Glow Hair Bath and Conditioner are the never-leave kind: the pair our stylists reach for at the bowl, and the one clients smell mid-rinse and immediately ask about. It's about time we gave it a proper introduction.
Here's what this pair actually does for your hair, and why we've loved it for so long.
Smoother Hair, Straight Out of the Shower
Most hair comes out of the shower at its most fragile: rough, tangled, hard to comb. Smooth'n Glow changes the feel of that moment entirely. Its biodynamic damask rose works while your hair is still wet, gently smoothing and closing the strand's surface so lengths emerge silky instead of roughed up. You'll notice it the very first wash: the comb glides, the towel-dried texture feels calmer, and hair dries with a polish it didn't have before.
Softness That Survives the Rinse
Most of what a shampoo gives, the rinse takes away. This formula is built differently. Organic caraway seed delivers a rare fatty acid that keeps lengths soft after the water runs clear, and upcycled apple seed oil, remarkably close to hair's own natural oils, stays with the strand rather than washing down the drain. The conditioner then seals it all in, detangling and softening so hair moves like silk when it dries.
Gentle Enough for Every Wash
The cleansers are mild, derived from coconut and sugar, which means they lift away buildup without stripping your hair bare. That makes this pair safe for frequent washers, kind to color, and flattering across hair types: fine hair keeps its body, thick hair keeps its softness, and anyone whose hair dulls or tangles easily will feel the difference within a week.
And Then There's the Glow
The name isn't decoration. A smoother, sealed strand reflects light better, so shine isn't added by the product, it's revealed by it. Expect more luminosity on dry hair, better behavior on humid days, and color that looks glossier between appointments.
What's Inside (And Why It Smells This Good)
The scent everyone comments on is real damask rose, not a fragrance lab's impression of one. Here's the full cast:
Biodynamic damask rose-
The heart of the formula and the scent. Grown on Oway's own farm and harvested at peak potency, it smooths and seals the hair's surface while perfuming your whole shower.
Organic caraway seed-
A warm, subtle note underneath the rose, carrying the rare fatty acid that keeps lengths soft long after rinsing.
Upcycled apple seed oil-
Pressed from seeds of fruit already grown for other purposes, rich in linoleic acid and so close to hair's own oils that it stays with the strand instead of washing away.
Guar bean-
The natural detangler that keeps hair from squeaking or knotting as the lather rinses out.
Coconut and sugar derived cleansers-
The mild wash base that lifts buildup without stripping.
No harsh sulfates doing the cleansing, no plastic holding it. Just a formula that works as beautifully as it smells.
The Part We Love Most
Oway grows its key botanicals on Ortofficina, the brand's own biodynamic farm in the hills outside Bologna, harvested at peak potency. The bottles are glass and aluminum, no plastic. Even the apple seed oil is upcycled from fruit already grown for other purposes. It's the rare line where the sustainability story is as rigorous as the formulation, and it fits exactly why we choose what we carry: safe, considered, and it simply works.
How to Use the Pair
Lather a small amount of the Hair Bath through damp lengths, massage gently and rinse well. Follow with the Conditioner from mid-lengths to ends. That's the whole ritual, and yes, it smells like fresh roses.
The Rebel Verdict
Silkier wash days, softer lengths, shine that builds week over week. It's the upgrade you feel the first time and appreciate more every time after.
Come Smell the Roses
Both live on our retail shelf, and your stylist can tell you in one glance whether this pair belongs in your shower. Ask at your next visit, or stop by Nicoll Street.

Sweater Weather Called. Your Hair Answered.
It's officially the season of flannels, foliage drives up Route 15, and pretending we don't hear the word "pumpkin" forty times a day.
It's also the season your hair starts plotting against you. Cold air outside, heat blasting inside, hats doing hat things. Dry, static, dull: the autumn trifecta.
So we're staging a little rebellion against all of it. Here's how.
The Whole Oribe Shelf. 30% Off.
Yes, Really.
Now through October 31, every Oribe product at Rebel is 30% off.
Not a starter size. Not a select-items-see-associate situation. The entire shelf: the shampoos, the conditioners, the treatments, the stylers, the bottles you pick up every visit, sigh at lovingly, and put back down. This is the moment you stop putting them back down.
If Oribe makes it and we carry it, it's 30% off. We told you. Rebels.
Why Now Is Genuinely the Moment
Cold months dehydrate hair from both directions, with dry air outside and dry heat inside, and the right at-home routine is what carries your color and condition between appointments. This sale exists so you can build your cold-weather kit properly: the repair, the shine, the moisture, all of it, without doing the math on which one to skip.
A quiet tip from the retail shelf: Oribe bottles are generous, and a kit assembled at 30% off in October is what keeps hair glossy in January. Your winter self will owe your fall self a coffee.
The Details
30% off all in-stock Oribe products at Rebel Hair Salon, now through October 31. Available in the salon while supplies last, and popular formulas do sell through, so earlier is better than later.
Not sure what your hair needs? Ask your stylist at your next appointment. Building the right routine for your exact hair takes five minutes in the chair, and it's honestly our favorite five minutes.
Come Raid the Shelf
Cozy season should include your hair. Book your fall appointment, or just come see us on Nicoll Street and leave with a very good-looking bag.
Fall is for rebels. So is 30% off. Click here for an update from Rebel Salon !

Your Hair Has Seasons Too
September Is a Hair Month, Actually
Sweater weather is coming, and everyone’s talking about boots, lattes and which candle smells the most like October. Nobody’s talking about your hair, so we will: the transition into the colder months changes what your hair needs more than any other time of year.
Here’s what’s actually happening up there, and how to walk into winter with your best hair instead of your driest.
First, Summer Left a Mess
Let’s be honest about the last three months. UV exposure quietly degraded the bonds inside your hair the way it ages your skin. Salt water and chlorine roughed up the cuticle and pulled moisture out. Every beach day was wonderful for you and a small crime against your lengths. So your hair is entering fall already thirsty and a little weakened, right as the environment gets meaner.
Then, Cold Air Plays Dirty
Cold air holds dramatically less moisture than warm air. When humidity drops, the water inside your hair starts migrating out, leaving strands drier, duller and more brittle. Then you go inside, where the heating is running, and that air is even drier. Your hair spends winter being dehydrated from both directions.
And there’s the wardrobe problem. Hats, scarves, high collars, that cozy wool everything: each one rubs against your hair all day, roughing up the cuticle and snapping fragile ends. Add the static that dry air loves to create, and by January the ends of your hair have been through a small war.
Sweater weather should be a good hair season.
The Fall Game Plan:
Rebuild first
If summer took strength out of your hair, Oribe’s Hair Alchemy bond building treatment at your color appointment puts it back, so your hair enters the dry months structurally sound rather than running on empty.
Then seal
A gloss smooths the roughened summer cuticle flat, and Oribe’s Mirror Rinse does it best: shine locked in through fifteen washes, and a smoother surface that resists friction, which your future scarf collection will appreciate.
Moisturize daily, not occasionally
Winter hair needs a leave-in the way winter skin needs hand cream, and this is exactly what Oribe’s Priming Lotion Leave-In Conditioning Detangler was made for. Its murumuru, mango and cocoa butters keep moisture topped up between washes, while the slip it gives your strands is your best defense against static, hat tangles and comb breakage all season long.
And book the trim
Ends frayed by summer will only keep splitting upward through winter. Two centimeters now saves five in March. We’ve run this experiment on thousands of heads. Trust us.
One More Cozy-Season Truth
Hot showers feel incredible in the cold, and your hair disagrees completely. Very hot water strips the natural oils that are your hair’s own winter coat. Wash warm, rinse cooler, and save the steam for the shower playlist.
The September Reset
Think of it as flu season prep, but for your hair: one appointment that repairs summer, seals in shine, and sets you up with the right at-home routine for the months ahead. Ask us about Hair Alchemy, Mirror Rinse, and the Priming Lotion your texture needs, we’ll build your Oribe cold-weather kit chair side. Sweater weather should be a good hair season. Come make sure of it.

The Physics of Shine
Why Some Hair Catches the Light
Shine is the first thing we notice about beautiful hair and the last thing most people understand. It isn’t a product you put on. It’s an optical event, and your hair either creates the conditions for it or it doesn’t.
Here’s what’s actually happening when hair gleams.
What Shine Really Is
Every strand of hair is wrapped in a cuticle: overlapping scales, like shingles on a roof. When those scales lie flat and smooth, light hits the surface and bounces back in an organized way. That clean reflection is what your eye reads as shine, gloss, that glass-like finish.
When the cuticle is lifted, rough or damaged, light scatters in every direction instead of reflecting. Nothing comes back to the eye in a coherent way, and the hair reads as dull, even if it’s perfectly healthy underneath. Dullness, in other words, is a surface geometry problem before it’s anything else.
Shine isn’t something you add. It’s something you uncover.
Why Most Shine Products Fall Short
The quickest way to fake shine is to coat the hair. Heavy oils and shine sprays sit on top of the strand, filling in the roughness temporarily. It looks good for an evening, then it’s gone at the next wash, and in the meantime it can weigh fine hair down or leave a greasy film. Real, lasting shine has to come from changing the surface of the hair itself: smoothing the cuticle so the strand reflects light on its own, then keeping it that way through washing, styling and daily wear.
Mirror Rinse Glass Hair Treatment
This is where Oribe’s Mirror Rinse earns its name. Rather than coating the hair, its Glass Hair Technology uses plant-derived humectants and conditioning agents to smooth the cuticle and optimize what scientists call the refractive index: how efficiently light bends and reflects off the hair’s surface. The strand becomes a better mirror, and the shine is yours, not a product’s.
A plant-based hydration complex locks in moisture without weight, a softening polymer blend smooths and improves manageability, and Oribe’s signature complex of watermelon, lychee and edelweiss flower defends against oxidative stress and environmental damage. The result is silky, weightless, ultra-glossy hair, and the shine is clinically shown to last through fifteen washes.
How to Use It
It’s a rinse, so it’s fast. After shampooing, apply from mid-length to ends in place of your conditioner. For very dry or coarse hair, use it after your conditioner instead. Leave for up to one minute, then rinse. Once a week is the rhythm.
Suits every hair type, and especially rewarding on thick, coarse or dry hair that has stopped catching the light.
The Rebel Verdict
Immediate gloss, lasting weeks, no weight. It’s the finishing touch we reach for after color, and the one product clients text us about the next morning.
Ask your stylist to add a Mirror Rinse at the bowl during your next appointment. Then watch your hair under the lights on the way out. That’s the physics, working.

The Effortless Wave, Perfected
This Week’s Obsession: Matte Waves by Oribe
Every so often a product earns permanent residence at our styling stations. This is one of them.
Oribe’s Matte Waves Texture Lotion is the answer to the look clients ask us for most: soft, piecey, lived-in waves that seem to have happened on their own. The kind of texture that reads effortless, because with this bottle, it nearly is.
What It Is
Matte Waves is a lightweight styling lotion that gives hair the texture and grip of a day at the beach, finished perfectly matte. No shine, no crunch, no stiffness, just separation, movement and a medium hold that lasts.
What makes it special is how it gets there. The texture comes from Oribe’s Wave Resin Complex, a flexible styling film that wraps each strand to create grip, definition and frizz control while keeping hair soft to the touch.
Texture that doesn’t cost your hair anything.
A Formula That Styles and Cares at Once
Most texturizers only style. This one nourishes while it works, which is very Oribe. Inside the formula: yacón, a Peruvian plant that delivers nourishment to the hair; tara plant, which moisturizes and thickens strands; Brazilian nut extract, rich in fatty acids and vitamin E; and Oribe’s signature complex of watermelon, lychee and edelweiss flower, which defends against oxidative stress and environmental damage.
Fine hair gets grip and fullness without weight. Curls get definition without frizz. Color-treated hair styles safely, appointment after appointment.
How to Use It
Glide a small amount through damp hair, scrunching and defining your waves as you go. Then walk away and let it air-dry. That’s the whole technique.
For a little more polish, diffuse on low. For more grit the next day, rework with damp fingertips, the texture reactivates with a touch of water.
The Rebel Verdict
Matte, piecey, medium hold, zero effort. It flatters nearly every hair type that sits in our chairs, and it’s become our stylists’ finishing move for that just-back-from-vacation look.
Ask your stylist to finish your next appointment with Matte Waves, feeling the texture beats any description we can write. The bottle is waiting on our retail shelf when you fall for it.

After the Sun Comes the Ritual
Summer asks a lot of us. Long light, salt air, afternoons that stretch into evenings. We say yes to all of it, and our hair and skin quietly keep the tally: UV rays lifting moisture from every strand, salt and chlorine drawing out hydration, heat and wind roughening the cuticle until shine gives way to straw.
None of this is a reason to love summer less. It is simply a reason to care for what summer touches. Recovery, done well, is not a chore. It is a ritual, and rituals are meant to be enjoyed.
This is why OWAY, the Italian house of biodynamic haircare, created not one after-sun product but four. Because what the sun takes, it takes in layers, and restoring it deserves the same attention. Allow us to walk you through the collection, step by step.
Step One: Cleanse
After Sun Hair & Body Bath
The ritual begins with removal. Sunscreen, salt, chlorine, and the day itself, all lifted gently away in one bath for both hair and body. The cleanse is thorough but never stripping; moisture stays where it belongs, and what remains is simply freshness.
Best for anyone returning from the beach, the pool, or a long day outdoors, and lovely for travel, since one elegant bottle does the work of two.
Step Two: Repair
After Sun Hair Mask
Where the bath removes, the mask replenishes. Deep nourishment for sun-exposed hair, returning the moisture UV exposure quietly took, easing dryness, and leaving hair softer, shinier, and noticeably easier to manage.
Step Three: Comfort
After Sun Body Balm
Skin remembers the sun too. This balm is its reconciliation: lightweight yet deeply nourishing, replenishing hydration and comforting warmth-tired skin without a trace of heaviness or grease.
Smooth it on after your shower while skin is still faintly damp. It is the natural companion to the Hair & Body Bath, finishing for the body what the bath began.
Step Four: Illuminate
Sunlight Serum
The finishing gesture. A weightless oil for hair and body that enhances shine, smooths frizz, and seals in everything the ritual has restored. On skin, it leaves the kind of glow summer promised in the first place.
Apply to damp hair before air drying, or smooth a few drops over dry lengths and shoulders before you walk out the door. It is the last step, and the one people will notice.
The Botanicals
Biodynamic Calendula. The soother. Calendula calms and comforts, supporting skin and scalp as they recover from the sun's attention.
Organic Baobab. The restorer. Rich in antioxidants, baobab returns moisture to depleted strands and lends hair its strength back.
Ethical Passion Fruit. The illuminator. Hydrating and softening, it leaves behind the soft-focus shine that reads, simply, as healthy.
OWAY grows and sources this way on purpose. Biodynamic farming goes beyond organic: no synthetic pesticides, soil treated as a living thing, botanicals harvested at their peak potency. What reaches your hair is agriculture at its most intentional, and you can feel the difference.
Why the Ritual Works as a Whole
Each step prepares the next. The bath cleanses, so the mask isn't fighting through sunscreen and salt to reach the hair. The mask repairs, so the serum has softness to seal. The balm comforts skin the bath just cleansed. And the serum finishes everything, locking in moisture and light.
One product helps. Four, in order, transform. That is the difference between using an after-sun product and keeping an after-sun ritual.
Five Notes for Summer Hair
1. Rinse hair with fresh water after every swim; saturated hair absorbs less salt and chlorine.
2. Keep a weekly mask appointment with yourself, especially in July and August.
3. Let hair air-dry after sun exposure; it has had enough heat for one day.
4. Before long beach days, comb a protective serum or oil through your lengths. Think of it as sunscreen's quieter sibling.
5. Finish damp hair with a serum to lock in moisture before the wind finds it.
Come Experience It
The OWAY After Sun Collection is on our shelves at 285 Nicoll Street, and fair warning: it smells like the best part of summer. Stop by, smell everything, and let your stylist tailor the ritual to your hair. Or begin at home, through our online shop.
Summer gave you the stories. Let us handle the recovery.
With warmth,

MEET QIQI: THE SMARTER WAY TO SMOOTH
Hi gorgeous,
If you've ever left a keratin appointment with stinging eyes, a 72 hour no-wash rule, and a "don't even think about a ponytail" warning, this newsletter is for you. There's a new generation of smoothing at Rebel, and it's called QIQI.
So what is it?
QIQI is a professional straightening and smoothing system that works completely differently from traditional keratin. Keratin coats the outside of your hair and slowly washes away. QIQI works from the inside: gentle acid based actives soften the internal bonds of the hair, then heat resets them into a new, smoother shape. It's not a coating. It's an actual change in how your hair behaves.
The part that made us fall in love: what's NOT in it.
Zero formaldehyde. No fumes, no smoke off the flat iron, no watery eyes mid appointment. It's vegan, cruelty free, and safe for color treated and even bleached hair, because the acidic formula works with your color chemistry instead of stripping it. If you know Rebel, you know this is the only kind of treatment we'd bring through our doors. Beautiful results should never cost you your health. That's been our whole thing since day one.
Zero downtime. We mean zero.
This is the game changer. Wash your hair the same day. Tie it up the same day. Work out, swim, even color the same day. The old keratin rulebook, the one where you tiptoe around your own head for three days, does not apply here.
It's customizable.
QIQI isn't one size fits all. Want pin straight? Done. Want to keep your wave but evict the frizz? Also done. There are formulas for thick and coarse hair, wavy and curly textures, and even a gentle version for fine, delicate strands. Your stylist dials in exactly how much smoothing you want, from soft frizz control to full straightening.
How long does it last?
This is where QIQI really pulls ahead: the treated hair stays smooth as it grows, so instead of watching results fade evenly away in a couple of months like keratin, you simply treat the new growth when you're ready, typically every several months depending on your hair and how much smoothing you chose. Your stylist will map out your ideal schedule at your consultation.
Who it's for
Anyone fighting daily frizz or humidity (hi, Connecticut summers). Anyone who's been on the keratin hamster wheel. Curly and wavy textures that want easier mornings without losing themselves. Fine hair that gets weighed down by other treatments. And yes, guys with coarse or unruly hair, this one's for you too.
Aftercare, the short version
Sulfate free shampoo. That's basically it. We'll set you up with the right products before you leave.
The fine print worth knowing
Appointment length depends on your hair, roughly 90 minutes for short hair up to about 4 hours for long, thick hair. It's real, careful work, section by section, and it's worth every minute.
Curious if QIQI is right for your hair? That's exactly what consultations are for. Come chat with us, zero pressure, real answers.
Smooth things ahead,
The Rebel Crew
P.S. Already booked for color? Ask us about adding QIQI, since there's no formaldehyde, they can play together in ways keratin never could.

What Great Extensions Know That the Rest Don’t
The Hair You Notice, and the Hair You Don’t
You’ve seen bad extensions. Everyone has. The line that shows, the color that almost matches, the texture that moves a beat behind the rest.
What you haven’t noticed is good extensions, and that’s exactly the point. The best work in this craft is invisible. It reads as luck, or genetics, or a very disciplined grow-out. It never reads as extensions.
What Separates Invisible From Obvious
The difference is rarely the hair itself. It’s the decisions made before a single strand goes in.
Color matching is done in person, in natural light, because hair is never one color. A believable blend needs the root shade, the mid tone and the ends accounted for, not a swatch held up under salon bulbs.
Placement is mapped to your head, your part, and the way you actually wear your hair. Where the wefts sit determines whether you can pull it into a ponytail without a second thought or spend the day checking mirrors.
And weight matters more than most people realize. A well-designed set respects the density of your natural hair, which protects it and keeps the finished look moving like one head of hair instead of two.
The best compliment extension hair ever gets is no one asking about it.
The Honest Part
Extensions are an investment, and the hair itself is the largest piece of it. Quality hair is what makes the color hold, the texture behave, and the set last through months of washing, styling and living. It’s the one place cutting corners always shows. Which is why, when we discount it, we mean it as an invitation.
September has a way of arriving quickly, and late August books quickly with it. If extensions have been on your maybe list, this is the fortnight to move them up. Book your complimentary consultation and see what invisible looks like.

THE LITTLE BOTTLE THAT LIFTS
Hi gorgeous,
Let's talk about the tiny pink bottle our stylists won't stop reaching for. It's the O&M Thique Volumising Powder, and if your hair has ever gone flat before you even finished your coffee, keep reading.
One pump at the roots and here's what happens:
Instant lift, like actually instant.
This is a finely milled powder that plumps fine, limp hair right at the root the second you massage it in. No teasing, no backcombing, no twenty minutes with a round brush. You part your hair where you want volume, pump a tiny bit at the roots, rub it in with your fingertips, and shake. That's the whole technique. The lift shows up before you've even put the bottle down, and it holds its shape all day, through work, workouts, and whatever your Thursday throws at you.
It completely disappears.
We know what you're thinking, because we thought it too: powder in my hair? Won't it show? It doesn't. No white cast, even on dark hair. No chalky texture, no crunch, no stiffness. Once it's massaged in, all that's left is grip and body that feels like your own hair on its best behavior. People won't ask what you're using. They'll just ask why your hair looks so good.
Day two hair becomes your best hair.
Here's the sneaky part: Thique absorbs excess oil at the root while it lifts. That means your fresh blowout from our chairs can survive days longer, and your "I should really wash this" hair gets a full revival in about thirty seconds. One pump at the crown, massage, done. It's like dry shampoo went to grad school.
It's clean, obviously.
You know us. Rebel built its whole reputation on beautiful hair that never costs you your health, and every product on our shelves has to meet that same standard. Thique is PETA certified vegan and cruelty free, with no sulfates, no parabens, no phthalates, no propylene glycol, and no gluten. It's completely color safe too, which matters when you're protecting the blonde you invested in. Style freely, your color is safe with this one.
The ingredients are doing the most, in the best way.
The magic is a short list of Australian botanicals. Tapioca starch creates the lift and drinks up oil. Safflower seed oil keeps every strand soft and touchable instead of dry and chalky. Kakadu plum, one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C on the planet, nourishes and brightens. And finger lime, aka the caviar of citrus, brings shine and strength while protecting against daily damage. It even smells like fresh mint and melon, light enough to never fight your perfume.
It fits in every bag you own.
The bottle is smaller than a lipstick, but because it's a concentrated powder, it lasts for months. No aerosol, no liquid restrictions at the airport, no bulky cans rolling around your gym bag. It quietly replaces your dry shampoo and your texture spray in one travel-sized step.
Grab yours online or swing by 285 Nicoll Street and we'll show you exactly how to use it. Spoiler: less is more. One pump, massage, shake, done.
Not sure if it's right for your hair type? Just reply to this email and tell us about your hair. Real answers from real stylists, no bots here.
Big hair, big love,
The Rebel Crew
P.S. Getting your hair done soon? Ask your stylist to finish your blowout with Thique so you can feel the difference before you buy. That's how most of us got hooked.
