Y'all, the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering is right around the corner! If you haven't gotten your tickets, get on it! If you can't be there in person, be a sponsor (or connect one!), make a donation, spread the word. We all we got!
This is going to be a powerful gathering of plant-loving folks, learning from and paying homage to the important legacy of Gullah Geechee culture and healing practices and more.
So honored to be in the number, Sis Khetnu! Tenki tenki for all you have done and are doing to make the ancestors' dream a reality. 🖤🌴
We are almost 30 days away from this conference, my anxiety is a little high as some things have not gone the way they should but I am hopeful and grateful to you all who have purchased tickets, merchandise and actually shared the post about the conference. I am the sole organizer of this event, trying to build a legacy for the folks who like me. Thank you for your patience, words of encouragement and your overall support. The show will go on rain or shine and I look forward to seeing your smiling faces there.
If you haven't purchased a ticket yet, please do. If you are willing to offer a sponsorship, please do. I still need volunteers, please sign up.
All information is available on the website, please take your time and peruse it.

A Love Letter to Rose | Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine My Beloved Rose: Given the way you show up with your gifts of flowers and medicine year after year—perennial and glorious, with little help from humans—I’ve been feeling that the least I can do is to write.

these natural hues! 🥰 beach rose glycerite, calendula-infused jojoba/argan/grapeseed oil, and plantain-infused sesame oil. i'm testing recipes today--these will go into a rich, soothing cream for my dry, hot summer skin.

morning foraging = sweet potato+purslane salad for breakfast. this is def my new favorite potato salad ever. i WILL bring it to your cookout and geek out on the nutrition benefits with your aunties. purslane is sour and succulent and super high in omega fatty acids, so it's great for your hair and skin and nervous system. It's also highly anti-inflammatory, full of vitamins A, C and E, vegan and gluten-free. just all-around good.
the next time you meet purslane growing in a clean space (ie, not along a curb where many dogs travel, or in your neighbor's pesticide-sprayed property) give it a taste! i 💚 purslane in salads, stirfry, and toward the end of the summer, i like to pickle it. but this potato salad tho...!
EDIT: by your request--the recipe! rinse and let a small bunch of purslane dry while you mince some onion, garlic and celery & cube leftover roasted sweet potatoes. (if your potatoes are soft, it helps to refrigerate them before cutting.) coarsely chop the purslane and saute it with onion for a few minutes on low to medium heat (just past wilted). mix the sweet potatoes and garlic, add black pepper, pink himalayan salt, some minced fresh parsely, a little olive oil. add purslane and onion, squeeze the juice of 1 lemon over all of it and mix. it's even better on day 2! @ New Bedford, Massachusetts
Our first local workshop at the Co+creative Center in NB was so good! We crafted a rose-based gentle skin scrub, a toner infused with calendula, yarrow, violet and rose, and some more good stuff.
Next workshop: 9/15 from 2-4:30, same location. We'll post details soon!
