You asked for it - many, many times - and I finally delivered it.

LUXURY NATURAL DEODORANT BALM

It took a LOT of formulating and several test batches to get it how I wanted it but it’s now ready and available both on the shelf at the Boutique in Nashville and online at www.lumibymari.com

We could have made a deodorant the usual way.

But where’s the fun in that?

When we created our Luxury Natural Deodorant Balm, we wanted something that felt beautiful on the skin, worked hard behind the scenes, and didn’t rely on ingredients simply because “that’s what everyone puts in deodorant.”

So, every ingredient had to earn its place in the jar.

We chose magnesium hydroxide to help create an environment that odor-causing bacteria aren’t particularly fond of. Because sweat itself isn’t actually the smelly culprit — much of what we recognize as body odor develops when bacteria get involved.

Then there’s zinc ricinoleate, one of our favorite little overachievers. Rather than trying to stop you from sweating, it helps trap and absorb odor molecules. In other words, we’re not declaring war on your armpits. We’re simply asking the unwanted aromas to kindly leave the premises.

Triethyl citrate joins the team as another clever odor-control ingredient, helping interfere with the processes that contribute to the development of body odor.

For the base, we chose a blend of nourishing butters and beautiful lightweight emollients, including mango butter, shea butter, jojoba and meadowfoam, along with silky squalane. The goal was a balm that feels luxurious and conditioning rather than waxy, greasy or heavy.

Arrowroot powder helps absorb some moisture and gives the balm a soft, velvety finish, while our carefully balanced waxes and fatty alcohols give it that lovely scoopable texture.

And then there are the things we deliberately left out.

You won’t find aluminum salts here because this is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. We aren’t trying to block the body’s natural perspiration process. You may still sweat — because bodies do that — but our formula is designed to tackle the odor that can accompany it.

We also skipped baking soda, despite how common it is in natural deodorants. It can be wonderfully effective for some people, but its high alkalinity can also be irritating to delicate underarm skin. We wanted a gentler approach that didn’t require your armpits to develop a particularly strong personality just to smell nice.

And we didn’t pile in powders simply to make the ingredient list look impressive. If an ingredient didn’t improve performance, skin feel, stability or the overall experience, it didn’t get an invitation.

The result is a thoughtfully formulated deodorant balm that works with your body rather than trying to shut down what it naturally does — sophisticated odor control wrapped in a soft, nourishing, beautifully scoopable balm.

Because even armpits deserve a little luxury.
