We left sh*tty salons because they were limiting us.
Then a lot of us went independent, rented a chair, opened a suite, shut the door⌠and accidentally limited ourselves in a different way.
And I get it.
Autonomy. Flexibility. Control.
Those things matter. I donât want you to give them up.
I want you to know you donât have to choose between independence and community.
At Scrunch, you can already have your own clientele, rent somewhere else, work somewhere else, build your own thing⌠and work here too.
Weâre a W-2 salon, but we donât believe that means we own your career.
Our space is available 9 AMâ9 PM, seven days a week. You choose when working here makes sense for you. You control your schedule. You control your pricing. You can take time off when you want it. And you get to work beside other artists instead of building your entire career alone.
Because you know what you donât get behind a closed suite door?
Community.
Challenge.
Inspiration.
Growth.
Other hairdressers who make you think differently. Who show you something. Who ask you a question you hadnât considered. Who understand this weird fu***ng career because theyâre living it too.
Scrunch is q***r-affirming, neurodivergent-friendly, inclusive, gratuity-free, and built around individuality instead of chasing beauty trends.
We work with the cosmetology program at Nashua High School South. We have an established community of clients who seek us out for natural texture, individuality, connection, and a different kind of salon experience.
You do not have to close your suite.
You do not have to leave what you built.
You do not have to pick us over everybody else.
Come work here when it serves your career.
Meet new clients. Meet other artists. Teach something. Learn something. Get inspired again.
If youâre a hairdresser in Nashua, Manchester, Londonderry, Merrimack, Hudson, Lowell, Tyngsborough, Westford or anywhere around Southern NH / Northern MA and this sounds like something youâve been missing:

Sometimes hairdressers become the dealers of insecurity.
They point out the problem.
They sell the solution.
Then they make sure you never feel secure without them.
That is dependency disguised as beauty.
That is not empowerment. That is peer pressure dressed up as professional advice.
Real advice should expand your choices, not pressure you into trends, ageism, or self-rejection. A hairdresserâs job is not to convince you that you are broken. It is to help you understand your options, advocate for the person in front of them, and support whatever makes you feel most like yourself.
Beauty should be something you get to enjoy, not something you are taught to need.
Hairdressing is about so much more than changing someoneâs hair.
Sometimes, it is giving someone permission to stop.
To put their feet up.
To take a breath.
To feel safe, seen, appreciated, and cared for.
As stylists, it can be easy to become focused on the haircut, the formula, the timing, the photos, and everything waiting for us next.
But this is the craft, too.
Creating an experience where someone can let go of the stress they carried through the door. Building a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. Working somewhere that also allows the artist to slow down, connect, and remember why they chose this work in the first place.
That is what we are building at Scrunch.
A salon where care is not rushed.
Where individuality is celebrated.
Where people, clients and stylists alike, can feel at home.
Curious whether Scrunch could be the right fit for you as a stylist or as a client? Send us a DM. We would love to talk.
Letâs celebrate you. đ¤ S

This isnât a now hiring post.
Itâs a community post.
Weâre not trying to steal stylists from salons they love. Weâre trying to build relationships with artists who care about inclusivity, individuality, texture, and helping people feel celebrated instead of corrected.
Maybe that looks like coffee.
Maybe it looks like coming to a class.
Maybe it looks like collaborating someday.
Maybe it looks like one Saturday a month.
Maybe it looks like friendship.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just humans connecting.
If youâre a hairstylist whoâs been looking for more q***r community, more curl community, or just more people who believe in doing hair differently, send us a DM.
Coffeeâs on us. â
For a long time, Iâve been asking myself a question.
What does it actually mean to help someone feel beautiful?
As hairdressers, many of us say we entered this industry because we wanted to help people love themselves. I know I did.
But somewhere along the way, I started wondering if we sometimes confuse helping people express themselves with helping people escape themselves.
Because those arenât the same thing.
When someone sits in my chair ashamed of their gray hair⌠their curls⌠their frizz⌠their age⌠or feeling like theyâre too feminine, too masculine, too q***r, or simply too differentâŚ
I donât believe those things are the problem.
I believe the shame around them is.
That doesnât mean coloring your hair is wrong.
It doesnât mean changing your appearance is wrong.
Beauty, fashion, and self-expression can be joyful, artistic, and deeply personal.
But I think itâs worth asking ourselves:
Are our choices rooted in self-expression⌠or in self-rejection?
At Scrunch, our motto has always been âLetâs celebrate you.â
Not because we believe everyone should look natural.
Not because we believe everyone should reject beauty.
But because we believe everyone deserves to make choices from a place of self-acceptance instead of shame.
If we can help someone leave feeling more connected to who they areânot who they think theyâre supposed to beâthen weâve done something far more meaningful than a great haircut.
Weâve helped someone come home to themselves.
And to meâŚ
thatâs what beauty is.

The beauty industry spends a lot of time telling people who they should be.
Weâre more interested in helping people discover who they already are.
At Scrunch Salon, weâre building a community of artists who believe hair is about more than trends, likes, and algorithms.
We believe a consultation is about listening.
We believe clients deserve dignity.
We believe artists deserve freedom.
Work one day a month or full-time.
Set your own schedule.
Set your own prices.
Work at other salons if you want.
Build your business in a way that actually fits your life.
Weâre not building a team of copies.
Weâre building a community of artists.
If youâve ever thought, âThere has to be a healthier way to do thisâŚâ
Letâs talk.

What if beauty culture could feel healthier for everyone?
Not perfect.
Not performative.
Just healthier.
These conversations can bring up a lot of feelings, especially in an industry where many of us were taught there was only one way to do things.
This post isnât about saying tipping is âbadâ or that other salons are wrong.
Itâs about sharing what gratuity-free, hourly pricing has allowed us to create at Scrunch:
⢠clearer communication
⢠healthier boundaries
⢠less emotional performance
⢠more consistency
⢠more transparency
⢠more honest relationships between artists and clients
For us, it created a culture where clients donât have to wonder if they tipped enough to deserve great treatment.
And artists donât have to emotionally perform for financial security.
That shift changed a lot for us.
Not everyone will agree with it, and thatâs okay.
But we do think these conversations matter.
If youâre curious about experiencing a gratuity-free salon model for yourself, weâd love to welcome you in.
And if youâre a stylist who has ever wondered what hourly pricing could actually feel like in real life, DM us anytime.
We genuinely love talking about this stuff.
