FACT OR FICTION FRIDAY ANSWER TIME!
FICTION!
Just because something is labeled “all natural” does NOT automatically mean it’s better for your skin.
Remember my example from last week? Poison ivy is all natural too, but we sure aren’t rubbing that on our faces.
Here’s another example: lab-created retinol. Retinol used in skincare is manufactured under controlled conditions so its purity, concentration, and stability can be carefully managed. That allows skincare formulators to create products with predictable strengths and delivery systems designed to reduce irritation.
Meanwhile, plenty of natural ingredients, including certain essential oils and plant extracts, can irritate or sensitize the skin, especially when they’re highly concentrated or improperly formulated.
So no, “natural” doesn’t automatically mean safer, and “lab created” doesn’t mean harmful.
Sometimes science gives us the ability to make an ingredient more consistent, controlled, and skin-friendly.
THAT, my loves, is your Fact or Fiction Friday!
Have a beautiful and blessed weekend!
Love yourself enough to give yourself a moment to breath..
Here’s a little FUN FACT from your favorite esthetician today!
Did you know your skin is not only your largest organ, but it’s also your heaviest organ?
Your skin makes up roughly 12–16% of your total body weight and covers about 20–22 square feet on the average adult. That’s a whole lotta skin and I'm seeing some of y'all out here expecting it to protect you while you're out here forgetting your sunscreen, sleeping in your makeup, and treating your skincare routine like a suggestion!
Sooooo all that said y'all, take care of your largest and heaviest organ. Your skin deserves some love!
Have a beautiful and blessed day, my loves!
WEIRD THINGS THEY DID FOR BEAUTY Episode 1
Victorian Edition
Y’all think beauty trends are wild NOW?! Let’s travel back to the Victorian era.
Victorian women were obsessed with achieving an extremely pale, delicate complexion and they literally poisoned themselves to achieve it.
With ARSENIC!! Yes! cute little wafers made with ARSENIC.
These beauty wafers were marketed as a way to create a clear, pale complexion. These delicious wafers were even advertised by Sears and Roebuck as part of the beauty culture of the time.
Can you imagine having your tea with a nibble of arsnic every day??
So the next time you think today’s beauty trends have gone a little too far, just remember,
at least your skincare routine isn’t trying to kill you.
Beauty history was WILD, y’all.
Follow for some more fun weird things they did in the name of beauty facts.
TAN TIP TUESDAY!
More DHA does NOT always mean a better or darker tan, y’all!
If you use a self-tanner with a DHA percentage that’s too high for your natural skin tone, you can end up with that dreaded orange or brassy look.
If you’re fair-skinned, 8–9% DHA is often a safer starting range. Going too high give you a result that doesn’t look natural.
Remember, the goal of a beautiful spray tan is to enhance the gorgeous skin tone you already have. Not change your ethnicity.
Know your skin. Know your DHA. Plzzzzzz stop thinking darker automatically means better.
There’s your Tan Tip for Tan Tip Tuesday!
Have a beautiful and blessed day, my loves!
Y’ALL!!!! I laughed SO HARD when I started editing these videos!
I didn’t realize until I was going through the clips that my client’s sweet little fuzzy butt, Dolly, was in EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
If you look really closely through the facial steam, you can see a giant pink bow attached to approximately 3½ pounds of pure fluff, just watching her mama intently while she gets her facial.
Sweet little Dolly laid there through her mama’s entire head spa + facial appointment without a peep. No barking. No fussing. Just quietly supervising to make sure I was taking good care of her mama.
Apparently, I had a tiny, fluffy spa inspector on duty that day.
Seriously, though. Between pampering my clients and getting surprise visits from precious little babies like Dolly, I have the BEST job on the planet.
10/10 appointment.
10/10 client.
10/10 tiny fuzzy supervisor.
*tzu
FUN SKIN FACT OF THE DAY!
Did y’all know that our own bodies produce a natural antimicrobial peptide called dermcidin in our sweat? Yep! Our skin has its own pretty amazing defense system. Dermcidin helps defend the skin against certain unwanted microbes.
BUT! Before you decide sweat is your new skincare routine, there’s a fine line!
Leaving sweat, oil, bacteria, sunscreen and all the other summertime goodness sitting on your skin for hours can lead to irritation and clogged pores, especially if you’re acne-prone.
Also, remember, sweat contains salt, which can be drying and irritating to the skin. So after you've been sweating your b***y off in this crazy heat, gently cleanse your face and body with a mild cleanser. No need to scrub your skin into submission!
Just your esthetician dropping a little fun skin science into your day
So, just know that yes
sweat is pretty fascinating and in fact helpful. Sitting around in sweaty skin? Not so much.
Y'all Considering it's approximately 1,000 degrees right now, stay cool, stay hydrated, take care of that skin, and have a beautiful and blessed day!
FACT OR FICTION FRIDAY!!
“If it’s an all-natural, plant-based product, surely it’s better for my skin than some lab created chemical. Right?”
Welllll, here’s a little hint before I give you the answer next Friday.
Poison ivy is 100% plant-based and natural,
BUT I’m sure as heck not about to rub THAT all over my face.
So. FACT or FICTION? If it's plant based, it's wonderful for my skin and if it's created in a lab, it's terrible for my skin.
Drop your guess below!
Stay tuned next Friday for the answer!
Have a beautiful and blessed weekend, my loves!
