How long does it really take for a sauna to heat up? 🔥
The time it takes for a sauna to heat up depends on more than just the heater you choose.
The main factors are:
🔥 Sauna size – the larger the space that needs to be heated, the more energy is required to bring it up to temperature.
⚡ Heater power – the heater should be properly sized for the sauna’s volume. A more powerful heater doesn’t automatically mean better performance.
🏠 Insulation and construction – a properly insulated sauna reaches the desired temperature faster and retains heat more efficiently.
🪟 Glass area – panoramic windows and glass doors also need to be taken into account when calculating the required heater power.
🌡 Outdoor temperature – naturally, a sauna will heat up differently from –15 °C in winter than from +20 °C on a summer day.
Ultimately, it’s the combination of the sauna’s volume, construction, insulation, and a properly sized heater that determines how quickly it heats up and how consistently it maintains the desired temperature.

Ventilation in a sauna is not optional. It's how the heat circulates correctly and how humidity stays controllable.
Fresh air enters low — near the floor below the heater. Hot air and steam exit high — near the ceiling on the opposite wall.

Without proper ventilation, the temperature stratifies: the top bench is scalding, the bottom is barely warm, and the steam distribution is uneven.
Every Mande sauna is designed with the correct ventilation geometry built in. You don't need to modify anything. But you do need to leave the vents open.

🪨 Sauna stones are not decorative. They are the heat storage system.
Good stones absorb heat slowly and release it evenly when you pour water.
Cheap or wrong stones crack under thermal stress, crumble into dust, and contaminate your heater.
Replace your stones every 12–24 months depending on use.

Signs they need replacing:
✓ visible cracking
✓ reduced steam output
✓ unusual smell

Harvia heaters come with the right stones. We include them. You don't need to source anything separately.
