Food and exercise get most of the attention, but they’re not working alone.
Sleep, stress, medications, health conditions, biology, age and environment can all influence weight management. That’s one reason “just try harder” is such lousy advice.

🍂 New month, new season, and absolutely no requirement to reinvent yourself by Monday.
Pick one thing that would make you feel a little better this month and start there. Small changes still count.

Hello, October. 🍂
A fresh month, a fresh start, and another chance to refocus on what matters most. Here’s to steady progress, good energy, and a little fall magic along the way. 🎃✨

Before September disappears, do not grade the whole month by the days that went sideways.
Ask instead:
• What felt more manageable?
• Which meal or snack made busy days easier?
• When did movement feel good?
• What support helped?
• What kept getting in the way?
• What is worth carrying into October?
Keep what helped. Adjust what did not. Leave the guilt behind—it is heavy and not especially useful.
You are not starting from zero next month. You are starting with information.

Before starting any weight-management program, ask better questions than “How fast will this work?”
Try these:
1. Who will review my health history and current medications?
2. What support and monitoring are included?
3. What happens if I have questions, side effects, or the plan does not fit my real life?
You can also ask about current cost, the exact product or supplement being discussed, where prescriptions are filled, and what results are realistic.
A trustworthy conversation should make room for questions. At Go Figure Missoula, new patients can call or text for a free consult and quick intake before beginning a program.

Here is a diet-culture idea worth questioning: if some restriction is good, more must be better.
Not necessarily.
A plan that leaves you constantly hungry, preoccupied with food, avoiding normal life, or swinging between rigid rules and “forget it” may not be sustainable—or appropriate for you.
The goal is not to prove how little you can eat. The goal is to build a pattern that supports your health, fits your life, and can be adjusted with qualified guidance.
If your current plan feels extreme or is causing concerning symptoms, talk privately with a licensed healthcare professional.

If you have been sitting long enough to become one with the chair, put on two songs and change position.
For song one: walk around the room, march seated, or do slow side steps near a sturdy counter.
For song two: add gentle shoulder rolls, ankle circles, easy reaches, or a few sit-to-stands if those feel comfortable.
No calorie target. No pace requirement. Just a short break from the same position.
Move within a comfortable range and stop for pain, dizziness, chest symptoms, or anything that feels wrong. Your favorite ridiculous song is strongly encouraged.

You do not need a three-hour meal-prep marathon to make Monday easier.
Set a 15-minute timer and choose any three:
• Wash a few fruits or vegetables
• Put tomorrow’s lunch together
• Move one protein from freezer to refrigerator to thaw safely
• Fill your water bottle and place it where you will see it
• Check your calendar for the busiest evening
• Put walking shoes by the door
• Decide on one emergency dinner
Stop when the timer ends. The goal is not to win Sunday. The goal is to remove one or two decisions from a busy weekday.

Before you decide “nothing is working,” look for evidence beyond the scale.
Maybe you:
• Packed lunch more often
• Walked farther without needing a break
• Slept more consistently
• Felt steadier around a food that used to feel chaotic
• Asked for help sooner
• Kept an appointment you wanted to cancel
• Cooked at home and actually enjoyed it
• Started again without waiting for Monday
Progress is not always loud. Sometimes it looks suspiciously like an ordinary choice becoming a little easier.
Which kind of win are you learning to notice?

Soup season has entered the chat.
COZY CHICKEN & WHITE BEAN SOUP

• 1 can white beans, rinsed and drained
• 2 cups chopped spinach
