Tonight reminded me why I still do hair. ❤️

My last client started at 7:00 tonight. It’s now 8:43, and I’m just finishing up.

I could look at the clock and think, “It’s late. I’ve worked all day. I’m tired.” But sometimes, doing hair has absolutely nothing to do with the time—or even the money.

I don’t do hair full-time anymore. COVID changed a lot of things for me and changed the direction of my career. But I never stopped loving this industry, and more importantly, I never stopped loving the people who sit in my chair.

Tonight, my client needed her color done and her grays covered. But what she is carrying right now is so much bigger than hair.

She lost her father when she was young. She became a widow after losing her husband around the time of COVID. And now, she has lost her younger brother.

She has an incredibly difficult and emotional week ahead of her.

So how do you say, “No, it’s too late”?

How do you not stay a little longer when you know that something as simple as covering her grays, washing her hair, styling it, and helping her feel like herself might give her one small moment of comfort before she has to face one of the hardest weeks of her life?

That’s the part of this career people don’t always see.

Sometimes we’re hairstylists.
Sometimes we listen.
Sometimes we laugh together.
Sometimes we cry together.
And sometimes we simply make sure you leave our chair feeling a little more like yourself than when you walked in.

There are nights when the money could never equal the time, energy, or love that goes into what we do.

And that’s okay.

Because I don’t still do hair just for the money.

I do it because I love hair.
I do it because I love my clients.
I do it because after all these years, I still believe there is something incredibly special about being trusted to take care of someone during some of the biggest—and sometimes saddest—moments of their life.

Tonight, staying late wasn’t an inconvenience.

It was a privilege. ❤️

This is why I still do hair.
And this is why it will always be more than “just hair” to me. ✂️

💙🐾 Our sweet Cleo is officially a mama! 🐾💙

What a week it’s been! Our brave girl went through a C-section like an absolute champion and showed us just how strong she truly is. Even after surgery, she’s been learning how to care for her three precious little babies with so much love.

Watching Cleo become a first-time mom has been emotional, beautiful, and unforgettable. We’re so proud of the incredible little fighter she is. 💕

Welcome to the world, our two beautiful girls and one handsome little boy! We can’t wait to watch you grow over the next several weeks.
