October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

And we want to begin with something every person in our community needs to understand:

Domestic violence is not always a bruise.

It can look like someone controlling every dollar you spend.

Checking your phone.

Tracking where you go.

Keeping you away from family and friends.

Threatening to take your children.

Destroying your belongings.

Controlling what you wear, where you work, or who you speak to.

Making you believe you could never survive without them.

Abuse can be physical — but it can also be emotional, financial, verbal, sexual, psychological, and digital.

Throughout October, Angels in the Attic is going to talk openly about domestic violence, the signs we sometimes miss, why leaving is so complicated, and what happens after a survivor finally gets out.

Because awareness begins when we understand what we are actually looking for.

💜 Be the safe place.

It’s Monday, which means it’s time to share a few of the things disappearing from our shelves faster than we can replace them!

This week, we have two BIG needs: ladies’ undergarments and FOOD for our pantry. 🛒💜

👙 LADIES’ UNDERGARMENTS
We are specifically in need of NEW panties in sizes Small through XL.

We are currently well stocked in our plus sizes (thank you! 💜), but our regular-size bins are getting very low.

🥫 HELP US RESTOCK OUR PANTRY!

When a mom and her children are starting over, their kitchen often starts over too. That means pantry food, quick meals, breakfast and school-lunch items are incredibly important.

Some of our biggest needs right now include:

🥫 Soups
🌽 Canned vegetables
🍑 Canned fruit
🥨 Individually packaged & lunchbox snacks
🍲 Microwavable meals
🥣 Cereal
🍓 Breakfast foods
🍫 Granola bars
❤️ Pop-Tarts

And we aren't limited to this list! If it's shelf-stable and something you would put in your own family's pantry, chances are we can use it.

One grocery bag may not seem like much, but imagine what happens when 20, 50 or 100 people each bring ONE BAG. 🙌

That's how our community keeps these shelves stocked and makes sure a mother rebuilding after domestic violence doesn't have to choose between buying groceries and purchasing another necessity her family desperately needs.

The seasons are changing, and so are the needs of the families walking through our doors.

As we begin preparing our clothing areas for fall and winter, there are several things disappearing from our shelves faster than we can replace them. This week, we need YOUR help!

👕 MEN’S FALL CLOTHING — SIZES SMALL–3XL
Jeans, sweatpants, long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, sweaters, jackets and other clean, current fall clothing.

👟 MEN’S TENNIS SHOES & BOOTS — ALL SIZES
New or gently used, please. Shoes should be clean, in good condition and something you would feel comfortable giving to someone you love.

🧥 CHILDREN’S JACKETS & SNOW PANTS — ALL SIZES
From our littlest ones through our teens, we need warm outerwear to get our kids ready for colder weather.

🥾 CHILDREN’S BOOTS — ALL SIZES
Winter and everyday boots are both needed!

💍 LADIES’ JEWELRY
Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and other pretty accessories. These little extras may not seem like necessities, but when a woman is rebuilding after leaving abuse, having something that helps her feel like herself again matters, too.

💜 LADIES’ HAIR-CARE TOOLS
We especially need blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and other styling tools that are clean and in good working condition.

Maybe you're cleaning out closets as you switch over to fall clothes. Maybe your kids outgrew last year's coat or boots. Maybe there's a perfectly good flat iron sitting in a bathroom drawer that you simply don't use anymore.

Before you throw it out or pack it away — think of Angels in the Attic. 💜

Your gently used items can become exactly what another family needs as they begin again.
