CHEMICAL PEEL 101: PCA Skin
PCA makes blends of acids to target everything from acne to wrinkles to pigment. Their line is very versatile and can be incorporated into facials to make an enhanced treatment. In addition to peels they have a full skincare line that compliments the work we do in the treatment room. One of my favorite peels to use during a facial is the “no peel peel” to provide a great glow up but without the downtime.

CHEMICAL PEEL 101: Peel Boosters
These acid blends are used at the end of a treatment to turn a light peel into a medium depth peel. They are typically comprised of retinol and vitamin C and don’t burn or add additional heat as they have a neutral pH. The help facilitate sheet peeling and while the dry skin and flaking is a bit annoying for about a week, the final result is worth the downtime. This isn’t a treatment you would do the week of an event. Plan for about two weeks prior if you’re trying to look radiant for something special.

CHEMICAL PEEL 101: Modified Jessner
A blend of three different acids: lactic, resorcinol, and salicylic acid, typically found in an 8-14% concentration. It’s versatile and used to treat everything from acne to wrinkles. Expect moderate to heavier sheet peeling over the course of about a week. This is typically my go to product when for anti aging when i want a good peel.

CHEMICAL PEEL 101: TCA (trichloroacetic acid)
Most commonly found in blends, TCA is used for mature, aging skin and is great for lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation. Strong concentrations are used under the eyes to help with that crepey appearance, or to provide a resurfacing effect.
I call it a slow burn acid - the flaking usually lasts a couple of weeks - especially when in a blend of other acids. An esthetician in Wisconsin should not do a TCA peel strong than 15%. Only Physicians can do stronger versions.

CHEMICAL PEEL 101: Salicylic Acid
This Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) is a great help with acne issues, especially in teens and young adults. It can be layers, it’s self neutralizing - meaning it continues to work for up to 24 hours (unless you remove it) post application, and can be combined with other acids like glycolic or lactic acid.
