This is your reminder that blonde doesn’t have to mean all blonde.

Sometimes the pieces that make the blonde look the brightest are actually the pieces we don’t lighten.

A little depth.
A little dimension.
Brightness in the right places.

That contrast is what gives blonde movement instead of having everything blend into one solid color.

And this? This is the kind of blonde I could stare at all day.

Bright, dimensional, soft and still completely wearable.

If this is the kind of blonde you’ve been saving to your inspiration folder, bring it with you.

Can we talk about something I hear women say in my chair ALL the time?

“I’m probably too old for that.”

Too old for long hair.
Too old to go blonde.
Too old for a fun color.
Too old for bangs.
Too old to wear it that way.

And every time I hear it, I want to ask…

Who made that rule?

Because after more than 20 years behind the chair, I still haven’t found the official handbook that tells women which birthday requires them to surrender their favorite hairstyle.

Now, will I tell you if a certain cut might not work well with your texture? Yep.

Will I talk to you about whether a color is realistic for your hair or the maintenance you’re willing to do? Absolutely.

But your age isn’t going to be the reason I tell you that you can’t have hair you love.

I don’t want you trying to look 25.

I want you to look in the mirror and think, “Yep. That feels like me.”

Whatever age me happens to be.

Just a little conversation from my chair today.

Maybe you don’t need everyone else to understand the choice that makes you happy.

I hear it behind the chair all the time…

“My husband likes it longer.”
“My mom thinks I should stay blonde.”
“My friend says I’ll regret going darker.”
“Everyone keeps telling me not to cut it.”

And sometimes those opinions are coming from people who genuinely love us.

But here’s the thing:

They’re not the one wearing your hair.

There is something really freeing about reaching a point where you can say, “I know you wouldn’t choose it…but I love it.”

And maybe that’s bigger than hair.

Maybe we’re allowed to stop making every little decision based on whether everyone around us approves of it.

Wear the red hair.
Cut the bob.
Keep it long.
Embrace the gray.
Be blonde forever if that’s what makes you happy.

There are enough things in life we don’t get to choose.

Your hair gets to be one of the fun ones. 🤍

“If I want to go darker for fall, we just put a darker color all over it.”

Not necessarily—and sometimes that’s exactly how you end up with hair that feels too dark, too flat, or nothing like the inspiration picture you brought in.

When I take someone darker, I’m not just thinking about how dark we can make it.

I’m thinking about dimension.

Where should the lighter pieces stay?
Where does the depth need to go?
Do we want warm caramel ribbons?
A rich chocolate tone?
Something more neutral?

Because brunette hair can have every bit as much dimension as blonde hair.

And if you’re coming from blonde, going darker can also require replacing some of the warmth that was removed during the lightening process before we can create that beautiful finished brunette.

So when you tell me, “I think I want to go darker…”

Don’t worry. I’m not automatically grabbing a bowl of brown and painting everything one color.

We’re going to talk about what kind of brunette you actually want.

Save the brunette pictures you love and bring them with you. They tell me so much more than simply saying “brown.”

Okay fall…NOW you can come.

There is just something about a rich copper this time of year.

But here’s what I love about copper hair: it isn’t one-size-fits-all.

It can lean golden and soft, bright and fiery, deep and auburn—or somewhere beautifully in between. The trick is finding the version that works with your skin tone, your starting color, and how much maintenance you actually want to commit to.

This one has that gorgeous richness without losing all of the dimension. And when the light hits it?

Absolutely one of my favorite colors to create.

So now I need to know…

Would you ever go copper, or are you staying loyal to your current color forever?

And if you’ve been saving copper inspiration pictures and wondering whether it could work for you, send them my way. Let’s talk about it. 🧡

🎶 Workin’ 9 to 5… 🎶

I mean…when September gives a hairstylist a 9/25, you KNOW Dolly is getting a spot on the feed.

And really, is there anyone who has made big blonde hair more iconic than Dolly Parton?

As a hairstylist, I fully support her lifelong commitment to blonde hair, volume, and being just a little bit extra.

But I also love something Dolly once said:

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

And THAT feels a whole lot like what I hope happens in my chair.

You don’t have to have the hair everyone else has.

You don’t have to follow every trend.

You don’t have to go darker because it’s fall.

You don’t have to cut it because someone decided women “of a certain age” shouldn’t have long hair.

You get to decide what makes you feel most like you.

And if that happens to involve a whole lot of blonde…

Dolly and I fully approve. 💕

Happy 9/25!

13 WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS.

Yes. I counted.

And before anyone tells me it’s way too early to be talking about Christmas… your hairstylist would like a word.

Between now and Christmas we have Thanksgiving, family pictures, work parties, Christmas parties, school programs, travel, and approximately 47 other things that somehow will get added to the calendar.

And somewhere in there you’re going to look in the mirror and think:

“Oh. I need my hair done.”

So here’s your friendly reminder from behind the chair:

✨ If you know you want your hair done for the holidays, now is the time to start planning your appointments.

Especially if you need an evening, a specific day of the week, or want a larger color service.

You don’t need to book because I’m telling you everything is almost gone. It’s not.

I’m telling you now because I want my regular clients—and those of you who’ve been thinking about coming to see me—to have the best chance of getting the appointment that actually works for your schedule.

Because December Jen does not want to tell December You, “I’m so sorry, I don’t have that time available.”

So check your calendar. Think about when your pictures, parties and gatherings are happening. Then send me a message and let’s get your holiday hair on the calendar.

And yes… it feels completely ridiculous that we’re already talking about this.

But 13 weeks, friends. THIRTEEN.

“If I’m going gray, I either have to cover it completely or just let it grow out.”

Nope. There’s a whole lot of beautiful space in between.

Gray hair doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing decision.

For some clients, full gray coverage is exactly what they want—and I’m happy to do it. But for others, constantly chasing that little line of regrowth every few weeks gets exhausting.

That’s where gray blending can be such a beautiful option.

Instead of trying to completely erase every silver strand, we can use highlights, lowlights, toning and intentional placement to help those natural grays blend into the rest of your color.

The goal isn’t necessarily to make you look “gray.”

It’s to create a softer transition so your hair grows out more gracefully and you’re not feeling like you need to reach for the root spray two weeks after your appointment.

And here’s the important part: there isn’t one right way to handle gray hair.

Cover it. Blend it. Embrace it. Change your mind later.

Your hair, your choice. I’m just here to help you find the option that works for your hair, your lifestyle and how often you actually want to be sitting in my chair.

Thinking about blending your gray but not sure where to start? Send me a message. We can talk through what that transition could realistically look like for you.

25 years ago, I started this career because I loved doing hair.

What I didn’t understand yet was everything that would happen in the chair between the before and the after.

Over the years, you’ve told me about babies, teenagers, weddings, divorces, new jobs, heartbreak, loss, fresh starts and some of life’s biggest celebrations.

We’ve laughed. We’ve cried. We’ve sat quietly when talking felt like too much.

And yes…I’ve remembered the story you told me six weeks ago and immediately demanded an update.

Lately I’ve been given some pretty incredible reminders of what these relationships mean.

About a month ago, a client wrote “A Love Letter to My Hairdresser.” A couple weeks later, another client wrote me an actual SONG. And this past week, so many of you sent the kindest messages as I celebrated 25 years behind the chair.

It made me realize something:

I thought I was building a career doing hair.
I didn’t realize I was building relationships that would become such an important part of my life.

What a privilege it is to be trusted with your hair and little pieces of your life.

I’m incredibly grateful God led me to a career that’s given me so much more than a job.

To everyone who has ever sat in my chair—thank you for letting me be your hairstylist.

And thank you for letting me be part of your story.

Maybe you don’t need a whole new life.
Maybe you just need to do something that feels a little bit like YOU again. 🤍

I hear versions of this in my chair all the time.

“I’ve been taking care of everybody else.”

“I haven’t done anything for myself in forever.”

“I don’t even know what I want…I just know I need a change.”

And I get it.

Sometimes changing your hair is just changing your hair.

But sometimes?

It’s choosing something for yourself after a season where almost everything you’ve done has been for someone else.

Maybe that means chopping it off.
Going darker.
Finally embracing your gray.
Adding the blonde you’ve been talking yourself out of.
Or deciding that COPPER SEASON has officially begun.

There is nothing selfish about wanting to feel good when you look in the mirror.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve lost the weight, gotten through the crazy season, checked everything off the list, or have a “good enough reason” to take a couple of hours for yourself.

Sometimes you’re allowed to simply say:

I think it’s my turn. 🤍

And if you’ve been feeling that way lately, I happen to know a chair in West Jordan with your name on it.

I have a little more availability than usual right now, so this is a REALLY good week to snag an appointment.

Come sit with me. We’ll figure out the hair part together.
