Jaclyn Perkins Massage Therapy, LMT

EDIT:

I feel the need to add a little clarification to this post because the comments have taken this in a direction I never intended.

This was simply a fun, educational post about what clients commonly call a “knot.” I get asked what a muscle knot is all the time, so I shared a simple graphic explaining the concept in terms that the average person (not necessarily a massage therapist or medical professional) can easily understand.

Somehow, that turned into people arguing with me over the science behind a meme. I’m completely open to respectful discussion and conversations about massage therapy, anatomy, and the limitations of the research. What I’m not interested in is being talked down to, insulted, or having strangers relentlessly argue with me over a social media post that was never presented as a peer reviewed scientific paper.

I understand that terminology and the exact mechanisms behind things like trigger points and muscle “knots” can be debated. That does not mean every simple explanation shared for the general public needs to turn into an attack on someone’s education, profession, or credibility.

So, if you disagree with the wording of the graphic, that’s okay. You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion. But please remember there is an actual person behind this business page.

I created this page to educate, connect with clients, and share my passion for massage therapy, not to spend my day arguing with strangers on Facebook.

💕💕🙏🏻

I’m considering adding red light therapy to my practice as an add on recovery option for clients. In addition to supporting recovery, it may offer a variety of other wellness benefits.

Before I move forward with the purchase, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Is this a service you would be interested in using if it were available?

Please let me know—I appreciate your feedback! 💕

Rolling your foot over a tennis ball is a simple yet effective way to relieve tension in the plantar fascia, loosen tight muscles, and improve circulation in the feet. This technique can help reduce discomfort from conditions like plantar fasciitis, ease stiffness after long periods of standing or walking, and promote better foot mobility. Regular practice can also support overall posture and balance by keeping the feet healthy and flexible. Glutes & Piriformis Rolling a tennis ball under the glutes targets the piriformis, a small but important muscle often linked to sciatic nerve pain. By applying direct pressure, it helps release tension, reduce radiating pain down the leg, and restore hip mobility. This simple practice can ease lower back pain and improve comfort when sitting or walking. Upper Back & Shoulders Using a tennis ball against the wall for the upper back melts away tight knots in the trapezius and rhomboids. It relieves shoulder and neck stiffness caused by poor posture, stress, or long hours at a desk. Regular rolling not only improves posture but also restores freedom of movement in the shoulders. Lower Back Rolling a tennis ball on the muscles beside the lumbar spine helps reduce stiffness, ease tension from prolonged sitting, and improve spinal flexibility. By targeting the quadratus lumborum and erector spinae, it relieves low back discomfort and supports a healthier, more mobile spine. Chest & Pecs Pressing a tennis ball into the chest muscles releases tightness in the pectoralis major and minor. This is especially beneficial for people with rounded shoulders or desk-related posture problems. Releasing tension here opens up the chest, improves breathing, and reduces strain on the shoulders and neck.
