Calling Your Spirit Guides for Help

Sunrise shining through tall pine trees on a misty lake with their light rays and reflection visible on the water.
Assemble a light team: a group of benevolent spirit guides who will come to your aid when called.

Each of us, whether we realize it or not, moves through life in the company of beings whose task is to watch over us. These ancestors, spirit guides, angels, guardians, and ascended masters designated to serve as protectors and guides take pleasure in their roles, yet cannot assist us without first being asked. Since the origins of our sacred sentinels differ, we may choose whom we call upon for help based on the situation at hand. However, in certain circumstances, particularly those in which time is of the essence or there is the potential for harm, we may feel the need to surround ourselves with our entire complement of benevolent, watchful guardians at a moment’s notice. To do so, it helps to assemble a light team: a group of spirit guides who will come to our aid when we utter a simple word or phrase.

The creation of a light team begins with the dedication of the words that will serve as a shortcut in your time of distress, signaling to your sentinels that you’re requesting their support. Meditation, at an altar or otherwise, can help you attract their attention, affording you an opportunity to articulate your desire that they work in tandem in certain instances. Creating a short ceremony in which you surround yourself with objects you associate with the helpers you wish to assign to your light team can ensure that those beings are in attendance as you designate them. The shortcut is simply a tool. You can employ “light team” as your rallying cry or any other words you feel comfortable using. The numerous guides and guardians who see to your welfare will accept your choice gladly and respond instantaneously when called.

Your light team will be there to assist you in those dangerous, chaotic, or confounding moments when you don’t have the time, energy, or opportunity to center yourself and meditate on individual sentinels. You can also call upon them when seeking assistance that comes from a variety of perspectives. Whether the support they offer arrives in the form of guidance or wisdom, their combined presence will give you a sense of security that strengthens you and reminds you that you’re never alone.

Get Back to What You Love

Life is too short to stop doing what you love, and it’s never too late to rediscover your favorite things.

There are times in life when we’re committed to pursuing our passions. Every molecule in our body is focused on doing what we love. At other times, necessity and responsibility dictate that we put our dreams aside and do what needs to be done. It’s during these moments that we may choose to forget what it is we love to do. There are many other reasons we might leave our passions behind. A hobby may lose its appeal once we’ve realized it will never turn into our dream job. Someone important to us may keep telling us that our passions are childish and unsuitable — until we finally believe them.

Forgetting about what you love to do can be a form of self-sabotage. If you stop pursuing your dreams, then you never have to risk failure — but just because you’ve decided to ignore your passions doesn’t mean they no longer exist. Nothing can fill the emptiness that remains in a space vacated by a passion that you’ve tossed aside. Besides, life is too short to stop doing what you love, and it’s never too late to rediscover your favorite things. If you gave up playing an instrument, painting, drawing, spending time in nature, or any other activity or interest that you once loved to do, now may be the time to take it up again. If you don’t remember what it is you were passionate about, you may want to think about the activities or interests you used to love or the dreams you always wished you could pursue.

You don’t have to ignore your responsibilities or neglect your commitments to follow your passions. When you make an effort to incorporate your interests into your life, the fire within you ignites. You’ll feel excited, inspired, and fed by the flames that are sparked by a life in which you’re doing what you love.

Writing Your Story

We all have a story to tell, whether we publish it or keep it only for ourselves or family. Allow yourself to be heard.

Everyone, at one time or another, has wanted to express their own story. Writing a memoir to read privately, share with family or friends, or publish is an emotionally satisfying way to gain perspective on your experiences while sharing your unique voice. We’ve all experienced feelings and events in our lives that we are longing to write down. Giving in to that urge can give you an outlet for purging any frustration, anxiety, or long-dormant feelings. No one else has to read it. You may even want to write your story without reading it right away. If you want to share it, reading your story to others can help meet your need to be heard.

Satisfying the desire to tell your story isn’t predicated on your writing ability. It does, however, take effort to write down the truth in detail. Your memories, captured on paper as descriptive scenes, sights, sounds, and scents, may at first seem disconnected or incomplete. But rest assured that you have the ability to shape your recollections into stories. This process can also help you understand your life experiences. And when you finish writing, you may be surprised by what you’ve accomplished. Your story can encompass as much or as little of your life as you like. You may be surprised by new insights or find yourself exploring your roots, your identity, and your future through your words. Allow your writing to guide you, and write as truthfully as possible. Don’t worry about what others will think of your personal journey, your style of writing, or your words.

Research has shown that writing a personal narrative filled with feelings and perceptions can create long-term health benefits. As you write, remember to have compassion for yourself, particularly when writing about traumatic events. If you are a young person, you can add to your life story as you grow older. Your writing may help family members know you better, or they may understand themselves more through reading about your experiences. More importantly, you’re expressing yourself in a permanent way, giving a gift to yourself, and letting your voice be heard.

How to Release Stuck Energy

Your journey toward greater happiness, health, and well-being starts within by unblocking your sacred energy centers — your chakras.

Many of us know the feeling of falling into the same patterns of anxiety, self-sabotage, or chronic stress. Over time, that inner strain can begin to speak through your body, too — as physical pain, fatigue, restlessness, or simply longing to feel like yourself again. These experiences may be signs that your chakras have fallen out of balance.

Your chakras are living, intelligent energy centers within your body, each containing its own frequency, memory, and electromagnetic origin. Stacked like a ladder from the base of your spine to the crown of your head, they are believed to influence your mind, body, and spirit. When they are balanced, you experience health, vitality, and wholeness. But when they’re blocked, they begin to resemble a river slowed by fallen branches and debris — creating distress and dis-ease.

The beautiful thing is that you can learn to work with these sacred centers and invite greater balance back into your life. As stagnant energy begins to move, you may experience more happiness, health, and well-being — creating space to feel more grounded in your body, more trusting of your intuition, and more connected to a sense of peace and calm.

Grounding

We usually head outside with a small goal: some fresh air, a few steps, ten minutes to clear our heads.

Nature tends to give back more than that. We go out for a walk and come home calmer. We step outside to stretch our legs and end up noticing the birds are with us along the way. The sound of the breeze, the ground under our feet.

We look for a moment of quiet and find a sense of perspective we didn't know we were missing.

John Muir understood this. The natural world is generous, and all it asks is that we show up.

So today, go outside and see what you find and take a moment to reconnect. You might come back with far more than you went looking for.

If You’re Uncomfortable With Stillness

Taking quiet time each day is important — to simply be alone and quiet in the presence of our soul.

It’s funny to imagine our lives as something we spend a lot of time avoiding, because it seems like that would be impossible to do. Our existence consists of everything we engage in, from showering to sleeping, but also a lot of busywork that distracts us and keeps us from looking inward. Experiencing life from the inside means taking time each day to simply be alone and quiet in the presence of our soul. Many of us are so out of practice that it’s almost unnerving to have a moment to ourselves. As a result, we may have stopped trying to carve out that time to take a seat at the center of our lives.

One of the reasons it can be uncomfortable to sit with ourselves is because when we do, we tend to hear an inner voice that might question the way we’re living or some of the choices we’re making. Sometimes the voice reminds us of our secret yearnings, dreams we thought we had forgotten. When we already feel overwhelmed by our busy schedules, the idea of hearing this inner voice can be exhausting. However, its reflections are the cords that connect us to our authentic selves and are the very things that make our lives worth living. When we continually avoid connecting with ourselves, we risk losing out on the true purpose of our existence.

To begin the process of being more present in your life, you might want to set aside just a few minutes each day to simply sit with yourself. This doesn’t mean watching a movie or reading a book, but taking time daily for self-examination to avoid the avoidance, to be with yourself in an open way. After a while, you may start to enjoy this part of the day so much that you make less busywork for yourself — so you can spend more time at the center of your own life, rather than hovering like a planet around the sun.
