🚨 MASSAGE STUDENTS & NEW THERAPISTS — READ THIS BEFORE OPENING YOUR BUSINESS.
I LOVE the ambition. I had it too.
I created the vision for Keeping Touch Massage while I was still in massage school.
I knew I wanted my own business.
But I also knew:
EXPERIENCE IS KING. 👑
So instead of rushing straight into entrepreneurship, I went and got my reps.
Different bodies.
Different personalities.
Different pressure preferences.
Different complaints.
Different expectations.
Different challenges.
Client after client after client.
I learned bodywork—but I also learned something equally important:
How to SERVE people.
How to listen.
How to communicate.
How to conduct an intake.
How to make someone comfortable.
How to receive feedback.
How to handle mistakes.
How to pay attention to the little details that completely change someone’s experience.
Because when you own the business, everything represents YOU.
Your touch represents you.
Your communication represents you.
Your professionalism represents you.
And those reviews?
YOUR NAME is attached to them.
So don’t mistake patience for playing small.
Sometimes working under somebody else is exactly where you’re supposed to be while you’re stacking the experience necessary to eventually build something GREAT.
Get paid to learn.
Get paid to practice.
Get paid to make mistakes.
Get paid to sharpen your customer service.
Get paid to encounter hundreds of different bodies.
GET YOUR REPS.
Then take the knowledge.
Add your personality.
Add your vision.
Add your signature.
And build something they can’t duplicate. 🔥
Don’t just rush to become a business owner.
Become undeniable at what you do…
Then build the business around THAT. 🎯

How long did you work for someone else before going independent—or did you start on your own immediately?
I didn’t create my massage style by trying to copy somebody else’s massage.
I studied concepts.
Lomi Lomi taught me FLOW.
Thai massage taught me LEVERAGE.
Sports massage taught me EFFICIENCY.
Deep tissue and trigger-point work taught me PRESSURE — and also made me question how much pressure is actually necessary.
Then years of working with different bodies taught me how important ANGLES, ADAPTATION and INTUITION really are.
I took what resonated…
Tested it.
Adjusted it.
Refined it.
Added hot stones 🔥
And over 13+ years, it evolved into what I call:
CUSTOM SWEDISH MASSAGE.
My foundation comes down to four things:
FLOW. PRESSURE. LEVERAGE. ANGLES.
Everything else adapts to the person underneath my hands.
That’s the difference between learning techniques and developing a craft.
You can learn from everybody without becoming a copy of anybody.
Study the principles.
Understand WHY something works.
Practice.
Experiment.
Refine.
And eventually…
CREATE YOUR OWN SIGNATURE. 🎯

What styles or modalities have influenced the way YOU work?
Your body isn’t your enemy.
It’s your oldest teammate.
It’s been fighting for you since the day you were born.
Every breath.
Every heartbeat.
Every illness it recovered from.
Every injury it healed.
Every stressful season it carried you through.
Maybe the pain isn’t your body abandoning you.
Maybe it’s your body communicating with you.
Asking for more rest.
More movement.
Better nutrition.
More recovery.
More self-care.
More love.
What if we stopped waiting until our bodies broke down…
And started appreciating them while they’re still carrying us?
Take care of your body.
It’s been taking care of you your entire life. 💙

One quote from massage school stayed with me for 13+ years:
“If it doesn’t feel good under your hands… it probably doesn’t feel good to the client.” - Jessica Boggs
Simple.
But powerful.
Too many therapists learn techniques…
Then stop evolving.
The goal isn’t to memorize routines.
The goal is to develop awareness.
Not every technique works on every body.
Not every angle works.
Not every pressure works.
The best therapists constantly adapt.
Constantly learn.
Constantly refine their touch.
Every client should teach you something.
Every session is practice.
Never stop improving your craft.
That’s how you separate yourself from average. 🔥

What’s one lesson you learned early in your career that still sticks with you today?

Most people think hot stone massage is just…
“Put the stones on the back and let them sit there.”
Nope. 😂
There are LEVELS to hot stone work.
The way I use hot stones isn’t random.
It’s strategic.
Heat + pressure + flow + timing + coordination.
One forearm working deep into the muscle…
One hand chasing behind with constant heat from the stone…
Creating tension relief and deep relaxation AT THE SAME TIME.
This is why mastering your craft matters.
The little details separate average work from unforgettable work.
Hot stones aren’t just an add-on.
When used properly…
They become ART. 🔥
Question:
Have you ever had a hot stone massage before?
And did your therapist actually USE the stones… or just place them on your back? 👀👇
Everybody has a sad story.
Some people just hide theirs better than others.
The older I get, the more I realize healing isn’t only about recovering from what hurt us.
It’s also about learning what aligns with us.
What gives us peace.
What gives us energy.
What helps us feel like ourselves again.
Sometimes the greatest form of self-care isn’t adding something new.
It’s removing what no longer belongs.
The people.
The habits.
The environments.
The expectations.
The patterns.
Life is already going to bring challenges.
Don’t make it harder by fighting against your own nature.
Learn yourself.
Trust yourself.
Honor yourself.
Alignment changes everything. 💙
Question:
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself in the last few years that brought you more peace?
👇 I’d love to hear your answer.
Therapists...
You are NOT supposed to be for everybody.
Read that again.
You are NOT supposed to be for everybody.
Some clients love extremely light pressure.
Some want nervous system work.
Some want stretching.
Some want sports massage.
Some want deep tissue so deep they think you’re training for the UFC. 😂
The goal isn’t to attract everyone.
The goal is to attract YOUR people.
YOUR tribe.
The clients who naturally benefit from what you do best.
The moment I stopped trying to be everything to everybody...
My practice became more fulfilling.
My marketing became easier.
And my confidence grew.
Stop asking:
“How can I attract everybody?”
Start asking:
“Who am I uniquely built to serve?”
