Just like cotton, wool, satin, and silk have different qualities and behave differently, so does our hair. And your curl pattern is only one small part of the picture.
When I look at your hair, I’m also looking at:
• Strand thickness — Are your individual strands fine, medium, or coarse/thick?
• Density — How much hair is actually growing on your scalp?
• Porosity — How easily does your hair absorb and lose moisture?
• Texture/feel — Does it feel soft, silky, rough, coarse, or wiry?
• Curl pattern — Is it straight, wavy, curly, coily—or a combination?
This is why two people can both have “3B curls” and have completely different experiences with their hair. One may have fine, high-density, lower-porosity hair while the other has coarse, lower-density, higher-porosity hair. They shouldn’t automatically use the same products, techniques, or even receive the same type of haircut.
Instead of getting stuck on “What curl type am I?”, start learning your entire hair fabric.
Once you understand the fabric you’re working with, it becomes much easier to understand what your hair actually needs. 💚

I need some feedback from my curly hair clients, swimmers, beach lovers & swim moms! 🌊🏊♀️
I’ve been looking into Coastal GRL Pre-Swim Hair Protectant and I’m considering bringing it into the salon, but I want to know if this is something you guys would actually use and purchase.
It’s basically like an “invisible swim cap” for your hair. You apply it BEFORE getting into the pool or ocean and it creates a lightweight barrier around the hair to help reduce how much chlorine, saltwater and minerals the hair absorbs.
Living in South Texas, this really caught my attention because between our water, swimming pools, South Padre Island, the sun and our heat, our hair gets exposed to A LOT. And curly, textured, highlighted and already-dry hair can really feel it.
It can help with:
• Dryness and that rough “swimmer’s hair” feeling
• Frizz, tangles and breakage
• Chlorine and saltwater exposure
• Color fading and unwanted changes in blonde/highlighted hair
• Keeping curls softer and more manageable after swimming
Instead of waiting until the hair is dry and damaged and trying to repair it afterward, this is meant to help protect the hair BEFORE the damage happens.
As a curl specialist, I’m really interested in preventative hair care, especially for my clients who swim regularly or spend a lot of time at the beach.
Would you use something like this? And would you be interested in purchasing it directly from me at the salon?
Comment YES, MAYBE, or tell me what you think! 👇
Gaby came in ready to bring her curls back to life. Her fine, highlighted hair was feeling dry, frizzy and undefined after previous lightening and keratin treatments, so we focused on giving her hair exactly what it needed without weighing it down.
Her Luxury Curl Reset was all about restoring balance, improving definition and creating a shape that lets her natural texture shine.
And LOOK at those curls. 😍 The definition, movement and shine were there all along—they just needed the right care.
Healthy curls aren’t about forcing your hair into a curl pattern. It’s about learning what your hair needs and working with what naturally grows from your head.
