I (Danielle) got to work on something pretty interesting today!
A client came in with Eustachian tube dysfunction, which basically means the little tubes connecting your middle ears to the back of your nose and throat aren’t doing their job properly. (PS see video to find out where the Eustachian tube is located)
These tubes help regulate pressure and drain fluid from the middle ear. When they aren’t working as they should, you can end up with clogged ears, muffled hearing, pressure, and that incredibly annoying feeling of needing your ears to POP.
So, what does this have to do with massage?
Quite a bit, potentially!
I used manual lymphatic drainage, which is a very gentle technique that helps move excess fluid through the lymphatic system. My focus was on the face, neck, and surrounding tissues to help encourage drainage and reduce congestion.
And guess what?
**By the end of our session, my client reported that the clogged sensation had decreased A LOT.**
Now, I didn’t magically fix the Eustachian tube itself. Lymphatic drainage isn’t a proven treatment for Eustachian tube dysfunction, and there are different reasons someone might develop it.
But we were able to make a noticeable difference in how this client was feeling, and I think that’s pretty cool. Massage is so awesome.
I love getting to use my knowledge of anatomy to approach problems that people might not immediately associate with massage therapy.
And sometimes the gentlest techniques get the most interesting results.

Danielle: I’m getting ready to work with four clients today. I’ll be working with a pregnant client, a client who needs relief from a pinged nerve in the cervical spine, a client who recently discovered they have cancer and are going through treatment, and a client with lipedema who needs regular lymphatic drainage. I am so thankful to be a and that I get to be a part of each of my clients’ health journey. Not a single one of my massages are ever the same because our bodies are ever evolving and our needs change every day! :)

Humerus Harry made a new friend. 🥖💀
Amity of Brick House Bakery and I (Danielle) have more in common than you might think—we both spend our days paying very close attention to living systems. Hers happens to be a sourdough starter. Mine happens to be the human body. OH - we also spend our days KNEADING 🤚
And as a European who CRAVES good European-style bread, I can personally tell you: Amity’s sourdough is incredible. I get it regularly, and I highly recommend getting your hands on a loaf.
Harry agrees. Although he has no digestive system, so his opinion is mostly decorative.
All in good fun — we love our clients! But yes, we did go to school for this. 💪

We are so thankful for having worked on so many hurt backs, sore shoulders, carpal tunnel wrists, sciatica, stiff hips, central nervous systems, but most of all such amazing clients this week. Humerus Harry is tired from socializing with everyone.
Harry heard Ashley does lymphatic drainage massage and immediately wanted in.
There is just one tiny problem.
He has no lymphatic system whatsoever.
Harry is devastated.
For those of us with a little more soft tissue than Harry, lymphatic drainage is a gentle technique that helps encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid through the body.
Ashley loves lymphatic work and is currently accepting appointments.
Harry will be seeking a second opinion. 💀

Six years of friendship right here! (And almost as many years working together)
I’m (Daniëlle) so lucky to be working together with someone who knew me way before The New Narrative Massage was a thing. Karol has seen it all with me, lol, and still wants to keep working together, ha!! Here’s to many more years of working together, laughing together, and talking about muscles together way more than any normal person ever should. Karol is my superhero (something about finding out I was pregnant seven days before my practice opened and Karol showing up and stepping up to help)! PS book an appt with her, she is an amazing human and LMT!
