✨ TODAY’S CANVAS: A BRIDAL PARTY. ✨

Today I’m trading the salon for the gorgeous Shadow Creek Weddings & Events in Purcellville, Virginia, where Shannon, Emily & I have the honor of doing the hair for Maddy and her bridal party on her wedding day. 🤍🥂

There’s something extra special about being invited into those hours before “I do” — the excitement, the nerves, the laughter, the music playing, and all those little moments happening while everyone gets ready.

Maddy, thank you for trusting us to be a small part of such a BIG day in your life. It’s never lost on me what a privilege it is to be included in these moments.

Three stylists. A whole lotta hair. One beautiful bride. One gorgeous venue.
Let’s get you married, Maddy! 👰🏼‍♀️✨

Much Love,

📻 We interrupt your regularly scheduled scrolling for a very special dedication…

This one goes out to Kandi — because when you routinely sit in my chair and say “yeah, carve some cool s**t into my hair” you eventually earn your own broadcast. 😂

Some clients get a haircut.
Kandi gets custom artwork with a fade attached. 🔥

The hair carvings are always giving main character, zero basic bitch energy, slightly feral, 100% understood the assignment.

So Kandi… crank this s**t up.

🎙️ This one’s for you, babe.

Signed,
the woman responsible for the s**t shaved into the side of your head. 😎✂️🖤

BLONDE ISN’T JUST BLONDE. ✨
And the photo you bring me may require a completely different technique than you think.

So here’s a peek into my mind as a color artist:

⚡ HIGH-IMPACT BLONDE
Think BRIGHT. BOLD. BLONDE.
This is for the client who wants maximum brightness and noticeable blonde from roots to ends. More hair is lightened, sections are often more saturated, and the overall result has less of your natural color showing through.

The vibe: “I want to LOOK blonde.”
Maintenance: Higher. More blonde = more noticeable grow-out.

✨ BABYLIGHTS
Tiny, ultra-fine highlights placed throughout the hair to create soft, delicate brightness. Because the sections are so fine, they blend beautifully with your natural color instead of creating obvious ribbons.

The vibe: Soft, dimensional, naturally sun-kissed.
Maintenance: Moderate, with a softer grow-out than traditional heavier highlighting.

🖤 CHUNKY HIGHLIGHTS
Yep… they’re back. But today’s chunky highlight doesn’t necessarily mean the stripey early-2000s version. These are intentionally larger, bolder sections designed to create contrast and visible ribbons of blonde instead of disappearing into the rest of the hair.

They can be dramatic and edgy or strategically placed for a modern, dimensional look.

The vibe: “I WANT TO SEE MY HIGHLIGHTS.”
Maintenance: Depends on placement and how much contrast we create at the root.

☀️ BALAYAGE BLONDE
Balayage is a placement technique, not a specific color. The lightness is strategically painted or placed to create brightness through the mids and ends while typically leaving more natural depth near the root.

The vibe: Effortless, dimensional, lived-in blonde.
Maintenance: Usually lower because the grow-out is intentionally softer.

🌿 ROOTED BLONDE
You can still be VERY blonde while keeping intentional depth at the root. A root melt, root shadow, or dimensional placement creates a softer transition between your natural/base color and the blonde.

The vibe: Blonde without the hard line of demarcation.
Maintenance: Generally easier and softer-growing than a blonde taken directly to the scalp.

HERE’S THE IMPORTANT PART:
These techniques can also be combined.

You might need babylights around your face, balayage through your ends, a few chunky ribbons for contrast AND a root melt to create the blonde in your inspiration photo.

That’s why I don’t just look at a picture and say, “Yep, highlights.” 😂

I’m looking at placement, brightness, contrast, dimension, your natural base, previous color, hair integrity, maintenance expectations and how you want that blonde to grow out.

Same word: BLONDE.
Very different roads to get there. 🖤

Much Love,

YOU’RE ALL A BUNCH OF LURKERS. 😂

And honestly? I get it.

We’re ALL experiencing social media burnout. There’s so much content coming at us constantly that we’ve become professional scrollers. We look. We laugh. We admire. We think, “Ohhhh I love that.” And then our thumb just keeps on trucking. 😂

But here’s something you may not realize…

Following, liking, commenting, sharing and tagging your friends costs absolutely NOTHING—but it matters more than you think.

Social media algorithms basically say, “Oh, nobody interacted with this? Cool. We’ll show it to 14 people.” 😂

Meanwhile, your local small business owner spent 30 minutes creating that post between actually WORKING, answering messages, cleaning, ordering supplies, paying bills and wondering when the hell our job description started including “content creator.”

I’m a hairstylist.

I’m also my own receptionist, photographer, marketing department, social media manager, inventory person, accountant, customer service department and occasional therapist. 😏

And here’s the ironic part…

Small business owners are burned out on social media too‼️‼️‼️ Except we can’t exactly disappear from it, because social media has become one of the biggest ways new clients find us, current clients stay connected to us, and people see the work we’re creating.

So when something from a small business you genuinely love pops up in your feed—engage with it.

Drop the ❤️.
Leave the “OMG 😍.”
Share their work.
Tag somebody who would love them.
Recommend them when someone asks.

Those tiny interactions tell the algorithm, “Hey, people actually want to see this,” and can help put that small business in front of its next client.

You don’t always have to spend money to support a small business.

Sometimes the BEST support costs absolutely nothing.

So from all of us exhausted small-business-owning, content-creating, algorithm-fighting people…

Come out of lurking retirement and HIT THE LIKE BUTTON. 😂🖤

Love You~Mean It,

Dear Hair Peeps,

If you know you’re gonna need your hair done between now and the end of the year… BOOK. THAT. SHIZNIT. NOW. 😂✂️

Especially if you’re one of my:
“I can only do Thursdays.”
“After 4:17.”
“Not the second Tuesday.”
“And definitely not during a full moon.” people. 😂

The books are filling FAST through the holidays!!!!

Thanksgiving hair. Christmas hair. New Year’s hair. Family-picture hair. “I haven’t seen these relatives in a year and I need to look better than them” hair.

PRE-BOOK IT. 😂

Because come December, I don’t want to hear,
“Any chance you can squeeze me in?”
>>Ma’am… the squeezing happened in September. 😂✌️

📲 TEXT ME DIRECTLY to get your appointments on the books through the end of the year. No online booking, no carrier pigeons, no yelling into the universe. Just text me. 😂

Sincerely,

😂 ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS OF BEING A HAIRSTYLIST…

There really aren’t many careers where you can have 25 completely different conversations with 25 completely different humans before dinner. And honestly, that’s one of the best parts of this job.

A perfectly normal day behind the chair:

9AM: “Aliens are real, bro.” 👽
10AM: “JESUS SAVED ME!” 🙌
11AM: “TRUMP!”
12PM: “F*** TRUMP!”
1PM: “The economy is cooked. No jobs. No money.”
2PM: “Business is BOOMING. I’m hiring!”
3PM: “I’M GETTING MARRIED!” 💍
4PM: “DON’T EVER GET MARRIED.” 😂
5PM: “Life is beautiful.” ❤️
6PM: “I hate everybody.”

Me all day:
“Damn… that’s crazy.” 😂✂️

We laugh together. We cry together. We celebrate births, marriages, graduations and new beginnings. We sit together through divorces, losses, illnesses and heartbreak.

And when you’ve done this long enough, you realize we’ve also lived through major social events and world events together — sitting in the same chairs, talking about what’s happening outside those salon doors and trying to make sense of it all.

Different generations. Different beliefs. Different politics. Different lives. Same chair.

That’s what makes this career so unique. The hair may be the appointment, but somewhere along the way, we’ve been doing life together.

And I wouldn’t trade that part of this job for anything. ❤️✂️

Much Love,

𝒞𝒽𝓇𝒾𝓈𝓈𝓎 💋
