3 things that are ruining installs that no one talks about 👀:
1. Product buildup, not dirty hair.
Most installs don’t fail because the hair is dirty — they fail because of layered product residue. Heavy oils, edge control near tracks, silicone overload, and thick leave-ins coat the hair shaft. This causes slipping tracks, dull installs, faster matting, and adhesive failure. Clarify the hair properly and only use lightweight, water-based products before installing.
2. Tension in the wrong places.
Tight does not mean secure. When braids are too tight at the hairline, closures are anchored instead of supported, or tracks are stacked too closely, installs break down faster. This leads to headaches, thinning edges, early lifting, and clients removing styles sooner than planned. The foundation should be secure — not the perimeter.
3. Heat and moisture trapped together.
If the hair isn’t fully dry before flat ironing, sewing, or gluing, heat and moisture get trapped under the install. This causes scalp irritation, odor, frizz that won’t lay, and installs that fall apart within days. Hair must be 100% dry and cooled before any install work begins.
A flawless install isn’t just technique—it’s chemistry, tension balance, and timing.
