A Complete Update on ALYCIA’s Ankle Injury & Recovery
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. I want to share a full timeline of what ALYCIA has been dealing with over the past couple of months.
This whole ordeal started on August 14th, which was supposed to be a milestone—her very first full day on campus. Instead, she suffered a severe ankle injury that required two separate hospital visits right out of the gate.
Unfortunately, the hurdles didn't stop there. We struggled to get her insurance switched over and finally got it resolved in mid-September. That month-long delay meant she couldn't get the specialized care she needed, stalling her entire recovery process.
Thankfully, she was finally able to see a podiatrist last week. We are hoping to get an MRI scheduled by the end of this week so we can get definitive answers and move forward. Right now, everything feels like it is in limbo, but it is looking very likely that she will need surgery to repair the ankle.
Through all this physical pain and the stress of her impending treatment, ALYCIA has been incredibly resilient. She is still managing to do exceptionally well with her studies despite the circumstances.
While we are incredibly relieved that Medi-Cal is covering her medical bills, the surrounding expenses are where we are struggling. Because of the injury, ALYCIA cannot drive herself. We are facing significant out-of-pocket costs for necessary mobility aids and the high price of gas for the frequent trips required to get her back and forth to campus and her appointments. If surgery is the next step, she will also be coming home for a week or two to recover before returning to school, which will require even more travel.
Any extra help or shares to cover these gas and mobility expenses would be immensely appreciated. It will go a long way toward reducing ALYCIA's stress while we wait for her MRI results and plan the next steps. Thank you all for keeping her in your thoughts!
