Why do I cut curls dry?

Because your curls reveal their true shape when they’re worn naturally.

When curly hair is cut dry, I can see how each curl lives, bends, springs, and interacts with the curls around it. That allows me to create a shape that works with your natural texture—not against it.

But a Curl Discovery Haircut is about more than the haircut itself.

Most curly-haired people have spent years trying to figure out their hair through trial and error, conflicting advice, and products that promised everything. My goal is to help take the guesswork out of it.

During your appointment, you’ll learn how to style your specific curl pattern, how much water and product your hair needs, and the techniques that will help you recreate your results at home.

Because you deserve more than a good hair day.

You deserve to understand your curls.

Your hairstylist… after hours ✨ Behind the chair or off the clock, I love what I do, and I’m so grateful for every guest who sits in my chair šŸ’–

ā¤ļø Live music is my happy place. Especially DMB. I have one tattoo- a Firedancer with the lyric ā€œCelebrate we willā€ (because life is short but sweet for certain) from Two Step. šŸŽ¶ Sound up- it’s playing on this post! show #56 in the books! This year’s show was at Jiffy L**e Live- but I’ve traveled all over the U.S. to see them 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

🧔 I love to cook. Before becoming a hairstylist, I considered culinary school and even worked in a restaurant kitchen for a few months. Turns out I prefer my own kitchen- it was way too hot back there šŸ”„ I hate figuring out what to make for dinner every night, but I love planning and cooking for special occasions… and sometimes Sunday is occasion enough. Cooking is a stress reliever. The cleanup? Not so much. šŸ˜…

šŸ’› Out and about with Sargie. He’s adorable, and honestly, that’s all that needs to be said. 🐾

šŸ’š Dementia caregiving. Waiting rooms, prescription pickups, and playing chauffeur around town. šŸš™ Fueled by coffee (though not usually this sweet šŸ but it was delicious šŸ˜‹)

šŸ’™ I love books. Between commuting and life, I listen to more audiobooks than I physically read. šŸ“š The Libby app is great! It’s free- all you need is a library card. These are a few I’ve enjoyed recently, and I always love getting your book recommendations! (If you didn’t know I’m also a history nerd šŸ¤“)

I get it. Curly hair can feel like a whole different language- especially if you spent years straightening it.

Gel cast? Squish to condish? Plopping? Micro-plopping? 2A? 3C? Protein??? 🤯

And then there’s the endless (and often conflicting) advice online.

The truth? There’s no one-size-fits-all routine because no two heads of curls are the same. It also doesn’t need to involve 10 different products and a lot of time.

That’s why my Curl Discovery Haircut is designed around your hair. We’ll talk about your goals, create a cut that works with your curl pattern, and most importantly, I’ll teach you how to style and care for your curls at home so you can actually recreate the results.

Think of it as part haircut, part curl education, and part self-care- with plenty of time to ask all your curl questions.

Because loving your curls shouldn’t feel confusing šŸ’œ

UPDATE: I’m alive šŸ™Œ If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back- or if I said I’d follow up and didn’t- this is why…

✨Wednesday afternoon I started having stomach pain, and by the end of the day I wasn’t sure I could drive home. Overnight things got worse- up every 15 minutes, sick as can be. I thought it was a stomach bug… until the pain Thursday afternoon sent me to the ER. A CT scan showed appendicitis.

✨I spent the night in the hospital and had emergency surgery Friday morning. By then my appendix had ruptured, so surgery was more complicated and recovery will take longer.

✨I came home Saturday evening and am camped in my recliner- my best friend right now since I can’t get up without it or my husband’s help. Between the anesthesia haze and pain meds, I don’t trust myself to text or reschedule yet. If you’ve texted, I’ve seen the notification but haven’t opened it so I don’t lose track.

✨I’ll be out of the salon at least a week, probably two. I can’t bend or lift yet, but pain is under control and I’m slowly regaining strength. Today I’m finally cleared to shower (last one was Wednesday šŸ˜… but at least fresh hair made for ok hospital pics šŸ˜†). Goals: shower, manage pain, and short walks to prevent blood clots. Appetite is slowly returning.

✨If you have an appointment in the next couple weeks- or yours was one I had to move- I’ll start reaching out once I’m more clear-headed, hopefully by Tuesday. You can also reschedule yourself anytime at www.vagaro.com/jenniferhash and I’ll likely add extra days as I ease back in.

✨Thank you to everyone who’s reached out- your kind words mean so much. The UVA Haymarket staff took wonderful care of me (and honestly, hospital food wasn’t bad once I could eat more than broth!).

šŸ’™ I brought the Kleenex back- because let’s be honest, things are heavy right now. So many people are facing job loss and uncertainty, and the world just feels off balance.

My suite is meant to be a safe haven. This is your time to decompress, to be fully yourself. You’re not a mom, a co-worker, a partner, or a caretaker in this space- you’re just you.

It might seem like ā€œjust a haircut,ā€ but it’s so much more. Taking care of yourself- especially during difficult times- isn’t shallow; it’s essential. I want you to have a moment where you look in the mirror and feel okay, even if just for a second.

Helping you feel good helps me, too. Supporting your confidence gives me purpose and lifts my own spirit. We’re in this together šŸ’ž

šŸ“£šŸ“£ Let’s talk about my New Guest Curl Discovery Haircut- this isn’t your ā€œnormalā€ haircut.

It starts with an in-depth conversation about the products you’re using and the methods you’re following. It’s also a hands-on styling lesson. You know all those curly techniques you’ve seen on social media? I help you understand them- and explain why they may or may not work for your curl type.

I schedule 2 hours for our first appointment, so there’s plenty of time for questions and learning. 🄰

A dry curly haircut is different from a traditional wet cut with layers. When I cut your curls dry, I can see how they naturally live and lay- and I cut them where they live. That’s the difference. It’s not just layers- it’s curl-by-curl, customized for you.

I don’t cut any straight lines into your hair, so it grows out in a more natural, flattering shape. You won’t need to cut it as often to maintain it- every 3 months or so is great, but I have many curly clients who only come twice a year. šŸ’«

Hi Friends ā¤ļø

Life has been a bit heavy lately.
Between caregiving for a loved one with dementia, family emergencies, illnesses, a car accident, and the heartbreaking loss of my sweet dog Lucy, I needed some time to step back and process.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support—it truly means the world.

We did manage to sneak away for a quick beach trip to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, which brought some much-needed peace. If you know me, you know the beach is my happy place. Saltwater heals—whether from the ocean or tears. This time, it was both. šŸŒŠšŸ’”šŸ’™

I’m now back in the studio, easing into the groove and looking forward to seeing your beautiful faces again. If I missed a message from you, feel free to send a little nudge—I’m here and ready to create curl magic with you šŸ’–
