As an educator and licensed cosmetologist, Jocelyn Kirkland, had the unique opportunity to study people in some of life's most vulnerable moments.

Today, we’re proud to announce the launch of Crowned & Ready: Back-to-School Confidence & Care Fair, The Apex Affect’s first annual back-to-school event!

Every child deserves to walk into the first day of school feeling confident, cared for, and ready to learn.

On August 11, we’re partnering with Universal College of Beauty to provide FREE haircuts and hairstyles for kids, along with haircare maintenance resources to help families care for their hair long after event day.

At The Apex Affect, we believe haircare is the gateway, confidence is the outcome, and community is the impact. Crowned & Ready is more than a day of free haircuts. It’s the beginning of a year of confidence through our Crowned in Confidence initiative, connecting children and families to ongoing support throughout the school year.

For those unfamiliar, dematting is the careful process of removing severe tangles and matting from the hair while preserving as much of the hair, comfort, and dignity of the client as possible. It takes time, expertise, patience, specialized products, and an incredible amount of care.

This isn’t a quick service. It takes hours...sometimes days to complete.

In many cases, the individuals who come to us in need of dematting services are already navigating difficult circumstances — mental health struggles, illness, disability, depression, caregiving exhaustion, housing insecurity, or periods of life where personal care became understandably overwhelming.

And often, they cannot afford the level of professional support required.

That’s where Apex Affect steps in.

Through the generosity of our donors and the support of skilled beauty professionals in our network, we’re able to help provide restorative hair care services to people who deserve to feel seen, supported, and confident again.

Because hair care has never been just about hair.
