This isn't an anti-cold-plunge post.
Cold immersion has legitimate uses — tournament recovery, multi-match days, training in extreme heat.
But if your goal is building muscle or strength, the evidence is clear: post-workout cold plunges may attenuate the adaptations your training is trying to produce.
A 12-week study found resistance-trained athletes who recovered with active warm-down gained substantially more muscle than those who used cold water immersion. The 2024 meta-analysis of multiple studies confirmed the pattern.
The mechanism: resistance training triggers inflammation, which is also the signal your body uses to grow muscle. Cold suppresses inflammation. You recover faster, but you adapt less.
This doesn't apply to endurance training. Different training, different recovery rules.

Armin.
The athletes who finish strong in long course aren't the ones who train hardest. They're the ones who train most consistently and consistency is downstream of recovery.

Fun fact: muscle isn't built while you're lifting — it's built in the hours after, while you rest, eat and sleep.
So take the progress pic. Then go take the recovery seriously. đź’Ş

Here's something that surprises people: you don't actually get fitter during your workout.
The session itself is a stress — in that moment you're breaking your body down, not building it up.
The real magic is what's called supercompensation. In the hours and days after training, your body repairs the damage and rebuilds slightly stronger than before — bracing itself so the same effort feels easier next time.
But that rebuild only happens if you let it. Sleep is when much of the repair work actually runs, good food gives your body the raw materials to do it, and gentle movement on off-days keeps blood flowing to tired muscles.
Skip the recovery and you skip the adaptation — you just stack fatigue on top of fatigue.
So train hard, absolutely. But remember: the progress is earned in how well you recover from the work, not just the work itself.
What's your recovery non-negotiable?

The biggest misunderstanding in carnosine pills: most of what you swallow doesn't survive long enough to reach your muscles.
An enzyme called carnosinase-1, present in your blood plasma, breaks carnosine into amino acids within about a minute of absorption. By the time the molecule reaches your bloodstream, the dipeptide is already gone.
This isn't controversial. It's standard biochemistry, documented in every serious study on oral carnosine bioavailability.
The legitimate oral route is beta-alanine — the precursor your body uses to build carnosine inside muscle cells. It works, but slowly. 4-6 grams daily for 4-10 weeks. Most people who try carnosine pills aren't taking beta-alanine, and aren't taking it long enough.
Different delivery routes exist for a reason.

Philip x Padel.
Padel is built on repetition. Same lateral movement, same forearm load, match after match. The athletes who win tournaments are the ones whose body holds up across the day.

The work that builds fitness doesn't only happen during training. The session is the stimulus. The response happens in the hours and days after — protein synthesis, mitochondrial adaptation, connective tissue repair.
Skip the response phase consistently, and the stimulus stops producing fitness. You're still training. You're just no longer adapting.
This is the part of training most people get wrong. The athletes who progress longest are the ones who treat recovery as half the work not as the reward for it.
