We spend our time outside, near the oceans, near the rivers, near the lakes, and near the seas. Any chance we get to live the Salty Sea Gypsy lifestyle, we take. You know what I’m talking about. The sunburnt nose after a long day in the water, tangled up jungle bird hair, sand between our toes (along with other places), and the luminous glow that only the sun can bring to your smile. It doesnt take much to be a Salty Sea Gypsy. Just a love + respect for the ocean, and a want for a life where your spirit can roam free. With this comes great responsibility. Being in awe of the seas means fighting for its protection. A little bit about plastic and its effect on the oceans. Each year, 8 million tons of plastics enter our oceans; that is equivalent to dumping a truckload of plastics into the ocean every minute. Plastics in the oceans do not biodegrade, instead they shrink into smaller pieces. When combined with microplastics, such as microbeads in personal care products, released directly into waterways, the majority of plastics in the ocean are less than 5 millimeters in size. Microplastics and the chemicals that attach to them in the water can contaminate the food chain, including seafood products eaten by people. This means the sea food we eat almost certainly contains these microplastics and there is no way around it. What can we do about it? We need to change the way we as consumers chose our products. It should be way easier to buy a plastic free, chemical free shampoo but that’s just not the case in our consumerist society. These days quantity and low prices come way before quality. That’s where the Salty Sea Gypsies come in. We have created a plastic free option to hold our raw ingredient beauty products. EVERYTHING will be made with wholesome ingredients, no harsh chemicals, and no plastic bottles. The bottles will be made of glass and easily refillable and used for other household items. If you want a refill in your products, ship back the bottles and only pay the refill price. Don’t single use, re-use!
