Yes speak up if suction is uncomfortable in any way: intensity, itchy, no I’ll see if I can get used to it.
One of the biggest things I wish clients understood about cupping is that you don’t get extra credit for tolerating more suction.
… but seriously.
If I put a cup on you and you immediately tense every muscle in your body because you’re trying to “handle it”... that’s useful information.
I don’t want you lying there secretly grimacing in the face cradle because you think more intense automatically means more therapeutic.
Cupping can feel intense and super weird.
Sometimes there’s a strong pulling sensation, or even a bit sticky.
But there’s a HUGE difference between feeling something and enduring something.
And this is one of the reasons the nervous system is such an important component of how I teach NeuroCupping.
Because a NeuroCupping practitioner dosn’t just think about the tissue under the cup.
They pay attention to the PERSON attached to it.
Are they relaxing, or is their tissue totally guarded against my pressure?
Do they trust what’s happening, or are they holding their breath?
Did their pain change or improve at all?
Can we get the response we want with LESS?
Sometimes reducing the suction makes the whole session work better because the client can actually settle into the treatment instead of fighting it.
So if you’re receiving cupping, speak up when something doesn’t feel quite right.
And if you’re practicing cupping, don’t treat “they didn’t complain” as proof that the pressure or suction was appropriate.
There’s a whole human nervous system in the room with us, and it’s honestly like, 80% of the treatment.
If this is a different way of thinking about cupping than what you’ve been taught, start with my free NeuroCupping training at the link in my bio.
That nervous-system-first clinical reasoning is a huge part of what makes NCT different.

I’m learning to slow down and notice how much beauty is tucked into an ordinary day. There’s so much to love right where I am. ☕️🐌💐🕊️
