Ooo-wee… look at that golden goodness! 😍
Come behind the scenes with me for a little Nourishing Scalp Oil production day at Koily Bay Hair Care.
There’s something so satisfying about watching a fresh batch go from that beautiful golden oil → to filling → sealing → and finally lining those bottles up on the shelf.
I don’t show this side of Koily Bay very often, but I wanted to give my Loc Luvs a little peek at what happens before the label goes on.
Small-batch production. A little patience. A lot of love. And one step closer to being ready for your scalp. 🌿

You see them every time you look in the mirror. 👀 You feel them every time you run your fingers through your locs…lumps.
Not every lump has the same story behind it.
Sometimes it’s buildup that has accumulated inside the loc. And if you’re going too long between shampoos, not cleansing thoroughly, or only reaching for a moisturizing shampoo when your locs really need to be clarified, that buildup can stick around.
Sometimes you’re dealing with bunching.
This can happen when an improper locking pattern is used, but how you handle your hair while it’s wet matters too. Pulling wet or sweaty locs into buns, keeping damp locs compressed under a head covering, or not properly securing loose ends when braiding and banding can contribute to bunching.
And if your installation left a significant amount of loose, unlocked hair at the ends, those ends can be especially prone to swelling and bunching when they get wet.
Then there’s inconsistent retightening maintenance.
When you wait too long between retightenings, all that extra new growth has to be worked through during your next appointment. As the retightening begins, that excess hair can gather into a matted lump. Over time, repeated long gaps can leave you with a loc that has thin areas, thicker developed areas, and noticeable lumps along the shaft.
That’s why identifying what caused the lump matters before deciding what to do about it.
And sometimes the answer is sitting right there in your loc-care habits. 👀
Have you noticed lumps, fat ends, or random thick spots in your Microlocs? Which one of these surprised you the most?

Hey Loc Luvs! Ever feel like you’re misting your Microlocs ALL the time… and they’re still dry? 👀💦
More misting isn’t always the answer.
Sometimes your locs may need more moisture support, especially if they’re color-treated or the dryness keeps coming right back.
That’s why I created two different mists for different needs:
💧 Hydrating Hair Mist provides lightweight, water-based hydration and is great for refreshing newer locs and hydrating the scalp.
💗 Koko Blessed Moisture Mist provides more moisture support when your locs are feeling persistently dry, rough, or need a little extra TLC.
And yes...you can use both. Your scalp and your loc shafts don’t always need the same thing.
The goal isn’t to mist more. It’s to understand what your locs actually need.
Which one sounds more like your locs right now — lightweight hydration or more moisture support? 👇🏾
