🚨 Is HHS helping restore vaccine confidence or creating more vaccine hesitancy? 💉

The Department of Health and Human Services just announced a new initiative focused on investigating potential vaccine injuries, expanding reporting, and improving patient care.

As a clinical pharmacist and public health advocate, I believe vaccine safety monitoring is ESSENTIAL.

Patients deserve transparency, accountability, and answers when adverse events occur.

But here’s my concern. 👇🏾

⚠️ We already have established vaccine safety monitoring systems.

⚠️ Reporting an adverse event does NOT automatically mean a vaccine caused it.

⚠️ Without appropriate scientific context, increased attention to vaccine injuries could unintentionally amplify fear and misinformation.

And at a time when we’re seeing declining vaccination rates and the resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles, we cannot afford to further erode public trust.

Vaccine safety and vaccine confidence should never be competing priorities.

We need BOTH.

💬 What do you think?

Will this new HHS initiative increase transparency and trust, or create more confusion and vaccine hesitancy?

American Pharmacists Month — Day 5 💊

Your PharmD is a skill set — not a job title.

One of the biggest misconceptions about pharmacy is that our career paths are limited to community pharmacy, hospitals, or industry.

They’re not.

Pharmacists are working across public health, federal agencies, research, policy, academia, nonprofits, infectious disease, emergency preparedness, regulatory science, and more.

From the USPHS, FDA, CDC, NIH, DEA, IHS, VA, Federal Bureau of Prisons, state and local health departments, academia, research, nonprofits, and health policy

There are so many places where pharmacy expertise is needed.

And this is exactly why I keep saying:

Pharmacists belong anywhere conversations and decisions about healthcare are being made.

If you’re a pharmacist who feels stuck, underutilized, or simply curious about what else is out there, I hope this post expands the possibilities you see for yourself.

Your clinical training, medication expertise, communication skills, problem-solving ability, and understanding of patient care can translate into more career paths than you may realize.

👇🏽Pharmacists: where do you work now? And what nontraditional pharmacy career would you like to learn more about?

Save this post and follow along all month as I continue highlighting the many ways pharmacists can make an impact beyond the counter.

American Pharmacists Month — Day 2 💊

If you still think pharmacists “just count pills”…this post is for you. 😉

Pharmacists are medication experts, clinicians, educators, public health professionals, researchers, advocates, communicators, and innovators.

We help prevent medication errors, support chronic disease management, expand access to vaccines and infectious disease prevention, educate patients, and help people make sense of complicated health information.

And we’re doing this work in hospitals, clinics, community pharmacies, academia, industry, public health, media, policy, technology, and beyond.

One message I want to reinforce all month long:

Pharmacists belong anywhere conversations and decisions about healthcare are being made.

Swipe through and tell me:

👇🏽What is one thing a pharmacist has helped you with that you didn’t expect?

And pharmacists—what do YOU do that people are always surprised to learn is part of pharmacy practice?

✨ Good conversations, great connections…and gelato?
That’s my kind of breakfast. 🍨

I had such a wonderful morning at the Women Decision Makers Breakfast, connecting with an incredible group of women who are leading, building, creating, and making an impact in our community.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Candace Spann of Couture Dermatology & Plastic Surgery, shared a conversation around “The Glow Within”—a great reminder that how we show up externally is often connected to how we care for and invest in ourselves internally.

And one of my favorite parts of events like this?

The opportunity to connect with other women doing meaningful work, exchange ideas, and build relationships beyond the business card.

Great conversation.
Great networking.

Breakfast. And yes…gelato for breakfast.

No complaints from me. 😂🍨

Thank you to Women Decision Makers for creating space for women to connect, learn, and celebrate one another.

💊🌎 Happy World Pharmacists Day!

This year’s theme, “Empowering pharmacists for healthier futures,” is meaningful to me.

For more than 20 years, pharmacy has given me the opportunity to serve patients in ways I never could have imagined when I first put on my white coat.

I’ve been able to work in public health, HIV prevention and treatment, infectious disease, reproductive health, vaccination, health equity, education, advocacy, media and health communication.

And one thing has become increasingly clear:

Pharmacists belong everywhere healthcare decisions are being made. 👏🏾

We are clinicians.
We are educators.
We are vaccinators.
We are researchers.
We are advocates.
We are public health professionals.
We are communicators.
And we are trusted healthcare messengers in our communities.

Empowering pharmacists means more than celebrating us one day a year.

It means creating policies, payment models and healthcare systems that allow pharmacists to practice at the top of our training and expertise.

Because when you expand the role of pharmacists, you expand access to care.

As a pharmacist, speaker and public health communicator, I’m committed to continuing to advocate for a future where pharmacists have a seat at the table and a microphone and m their hand. 🎤💊

Happy to my pharmacy colleagues around the world. 🌎

💉 HIV prevention is changing and making sure clinicians are prepared to implement these advances is just as important as the innovation itself.

I recently had the opportunity to help facilitate a hands-on Long-Acting Injectable PrEP Workshop at the U.S. Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA) in Anaheim.

As a clinical pharmacist who has worked in HIV care and prevention for nearly two decades, I’m incredibly grateful for opportunities like this

We can move beyond talking about expanding PrEP access and actually give healthcare professionals the practical tools they need to bring these services into their own clinics.

Long-acting HIV prevention gives us more choices than ever before, including:

💜 APRETUDE® (cabotegravir) — long-acting injectable PrEP administered every 2 months after initiation.

💙 YEZTUGO® (lenacapavir) — the first twice-yearly injectable PrEP option, administered every 6 months after initiation.

But having more options only matters if people can actually ACCESS them.

That means preparing healthcare teams to confidently counsel patients, navigate implementation, administer these medications correctly, and build sustainable PrEP programs in their communities.

Every clinic we equip to offer more HIV prevention choices represents another opportunity to meet people where they are and help prevent new HIV infections.

This is the work I love. 💜

If your organization, health system, conference, or clinical team is looking for an experienced HIV pharmacist and educator for PrEP implementation, HIV prevention education, clinical training, workshops, or speaking, I’d love to connect.
