I’ve learned a lot in 14 years and the one thing that keeps me going is knowing that there’s nothing else I’d rather do.
1. You are the company you keep.
You’ll never thrive in a toxic environment, and you’ll never continue growing if you’ve outgrown the talent, wisdom, professionalism, and mindset of the people around you. The right environment doesn’t just support your success,it challenges you to become better. Surround yourself with people who inspire growth, not complacency.
2. Comparison is the thief of joy.
There are so many different ways to define success in this industry. For some, success looks like a massive social media following, brand deals, and traveling. For others, it’s a full book of loyal guests, financial freedom, flexibility, and a business that supports the life they love.
Someone else’s version of success doesn’t make yours any less valuable.
3. Creativity isn’t robotic.
We can learn every technique, master every formula, and follow every rule but at the end of the day, we are creatives.
Creativity isn’t something you can force. We’re all human, and even the best of the best have off days.
Give yourself grace.
4. Communication is where appointments fail.
Most appointment issues don’t come from a lack of skill, they come from a lack of communication.
Clear expectations, honest conversations, asking the right questions, and truly listening are what make the biggest difference in a successful appointment.
5. You have to be willing to ride the wave.
This industry ebbs and flows. There will be seasons of growth, seasons of challenge, and moments where you feel like you’re fighting to stay on top.
Some years feel effortless, and others require resilience, patience, and perseverance.
The stylists who make it for the long haul are the ones willing to keep showing up and fight for it, whatever that looks like.
