Due to Hurricane Lala, we had to reschedule my Grandpa burial. I’m finally feeling at ease now that my grandpa is at his final resting place.

Many of my clients knew my grandpa. After the fires, he would always be outside the salon, greeting my clients, even telling my clients where to go. 😂

My grandpa was my last living grandparent and the only grandpa I ever knew. My original logo represented two flowers—myself with the Hawaiian hibiscus (living in Hawaii), and my angels in heaven—-my grandmas, with the Sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines.

My updated logo now includes a barbering clipper and razor, honoring “barbering” as my first skill. (You may not know that !? Or did you?) 😊 Now that I have 3 angels that migrated from the Philippines to Hawaii, I added another Sampaguita flower. Also, I can’t forget—Monstera leaves that symbolizes prosperity, longevity, and good luck😍

My grandpa was there throughout my journey—from 2012 when his wife passed away and I started my apprentice, handing out my business cards, and visiting me at my old salon—and to letting me touch up the little hairs he missed. Maybe he felt like a king on the chair that really wanted pampering🤍It brings my family and myself comfort knowing he is reunited with my grandma. I know he’s so ready to tell her about the journey I’ve built. She will first greet him, “AYEEE KALBO! What took you so long to come here?” 😂

The new logo represents my heritage, strength, authority, and pride. Losing my last grandparent feels different. We all believed Grandpa Bart would live forever. Adding some representation of him to my logo makes it more than a business—it represents my roots, his love and support, and the legacy I’m proud to continue for generations to come.
