She laid the money on the desk, hugged me, and walked out of my office for the last time.

It’s been almost three years.

I don’t even remember what month she first came to see me because, like clockwork, she’s had a standing appointment with me every two weeks ever since.

The first time she laid on my table, she came back. And then she kept coming back. Routine became relationship.

Over the last few years, I’ve gotten all the updates about her life the good, the hard, the everyday things in between. I’ve watched her walk through seasons of life while she’s trusted me with her time, her body, and her stories.

She was always 15 minutes early to her appointment, so I planned for it. I’d try to block out 30 minutes before she was scheduled so I could be ready for her when she walked through the door. Because I knew she’d be there early, and I wanted to have that extra time with her.

I even got to meet her daughter when she was in town recently, and I swear, it was like watching her twin walk through the door.

I held it together when she hugged me. I didn’t cry because she’s never been a particularly touchy-feely person, and I knew that hug meant something.

But the second that door closed behind her, the tears started rolling down my cheeks.

She’s moving and I will help her find another LMT in that area.

This is the part of being a massage therapist that people don’t always see.

Y’all are so much more to me than clients.

You become part of my life. I get to know your stories, your families, your struggles, your celebrations, and the little things that make you who you are. And sometimes, saying goodbye feels a lot more like saying goodbye to a friend.

Thank you to every single person who has supported me, trusted me, and allowed me to be a small part of your life.

I am so incredibly thankful that I get to do what I love for a living. ❤️
