For many women, hair is deeply connected to identity, confidence and femininity. That is why Jada Pinkett Smith described the beginning of her hair loss as terrifying.

After noticing that her hair was falling out in handfuls, she underwent medical testing and eventually began speaking publicly about living with alopecia.

At first, she experimented with shorter styles and head coverings. But as the hair loss continued, Jada chose to stop hiding it and shave her head completely.

She later shared the visible changes to her scalp with humor, saying that she and her alopecia would simply have to become friends.

Her decision did not erase the emotional difficulty of hair loss. It showed that acceptance can exist alongside fear, grief and insecurity.

Jada’s hair may have changed, but her beauty never disappeared. She simply stopped allowing the condition to decide how confidently she showed up in the world. 👑
