There's cleaning your instrument.
And then there's cleaning your instrument.
Regular care at home is important, but it can't reach everything. Over time, instruments collect dirt, oils, moisture and buildup that need a little more attention.
That's where a professional cleaning comes in.
It isn't just about making an instrument shine again. It's about taking care of the instrument so it can keep doing its job for years to come. Although we do think that shine on the after is fantastic!
When was the last time you had your instrument professionally cleaned? If you can't remember, now is the time to come see us at the shop.

This one is worth repeating every few months.
At Musicraft, we repair Woodwind and Brass instruments.
Thatās our lane.
Thatās our specialty.
And after 40+ years, itās a lane we exceed in.
What we donāt repair:
š„ Drums
š» Violins or other string instruments
šø Guitars
š¹ Pianos
šVehicles
or your child's unwillingness to Practice.
Basically, if it doesnāt need air to make music, it probably shouldnāt come through our door.
Those other instruments are great too. Theyāre just not where the Musicraft talent is best put to work.
Woodwind and Brass? Bring āem in.

We understand when the conversation goes like this...
BAND PARENT: "What happened to your instrument?"
STUDENT: "I don't know."
BAND PARENT: "How did it get bent?"
STUDENT: "It was like that."
After 40+ years repairing instruments, I can confirm that the instrument rarely tells us what happened either. But we can fix/repair it. So don't wait, bring it into the shop.
Happy Friday.

When was the last time you cleaned your mouthpiece?
Not wiped it off. Actually, cleaned it?
Mouthpieces collect funk and gunk more than most people realize, especially when an instrument is being played regularly.
Make cleaning it part of the routine.
If your instrument gets regular attention, the part that actually touches your mouth should too.

See a loose screw on your instrument? That's a good catch.
Before you grab the nearest screwdriver and tighten it as much as humanly possible, remember that some screws on woodwind and brass instruments are part of very precise adjustments.
Too tight can cause problems too.
Sometimes the best DIY repair is knowing when NOT to DIY.
Stop by to see us at the shop for questions, quotes, cleanings and repairs.

Your instrument case isn't just for carrying your instrument. It's protection.
Make sure your instrument is sitting properly inside before you close it. Don't cram music, books, snacks or anything else on top of it just because there's technically room.
And please use the latches. A good case can't do its job if the instrument falls out of it.

Before you blame the musician it really could be the instrument. That is unless you catch then dropping their instrument out of the band bus or throwing it into the car, then it could be the musician and the instrument! š«£
Seriously though a leaking pad, bent key, misalignment or valve problem can make notes harder to play and tone harder to control. If something that used to be easy suddenly isn't, don't automatically assume more practice is the answer.
The instrument might be trying to tell you something. Listen. š
