Natural hair isn’t the only definition of healthy hair.
For some women, transitioning from natural to relaxed hair simply works better for their lifestyle. Short relaxed hair can be sexy, youthful, sophisticated, low-maintenance and incredibly versatile.
My client is now 5 months into her short relaxed style and still LOVING it.
She also manages seborrheic dermatitis, an inflammatory scalp condition that can cause flaking, itching and irritation. So while maintaining her beautiful style is important, managing scalp inflammation is equally important.
We’re intentional about proper relaxer application, avoiding unnecessary chemical exposure to the scalp, routine cleansing, conditioning, scalp care and following her dermatologist-directed treatment when needed.
Having a scalp condition doesn’t mean you have to give up beautiful hair. It means we have to be more intentional about how we care for it.
The goal isn’t to convince every woman to wear her hair natural.
The goal is to help her maintain the healthiest version of the hair she chooses to wear.
September appointments are open with 7 appointments remaining.
In-person and virtual Trichology Consultations are also available for those experiencing hair loss, thinning or ongoing scalp concerns.

A protective style is only protective when the technique protects the hair underneath it.
This client has traction alopecia, so her Smoothing Treatment Quick Weave was customized with a braid-down pattern and installation technique designed to provide coverage while minimizing unnecessary tension on vulnerable areas.
With proper care, this style can typically be worn for 4–6 weeks. But proper removal is just as important as the installation. Pulling, rushing through adhesive removal, or improperly taking down extensions can cause breakage and place additional stress on already compromised follicles.
Beautiful extensions should never come at the expense of healthy hair.
September is now open with 7 appointments remaining.
If you’re experiencing thinning, shedding, scalp concerns or hair loss, Trichology Consultations are prioritized and available both in person and virtually. You do not have to be in Houston to begin addressing your hair and scalp concerns.

Healthy hair begins with understanding the scalp.
My client manages both psoriasis and eczema, two inflammatory conditions that can affect the scalp differently. Treatment may include dermatologist-prescribed topical medications, medicated shampoos and other therapies depending on the severity of the condition.
Behind the chair, my role is to work alongside her dermatologist’s treatment plan while being mindful of inflammation, product selection, heat, tension and the overall health of the scalp.
You can have beautiful hair while still prioritizing scalp health.
I have 2 appointments remaining this week for hair and scalp services. If you’ve been experiencing persistent flaking, itching, irritation, thinning or hair loss, this is a great time to stop guessing and take a closer look at what your scalp may be telling you.
In-person and virtual trichology consultations are available.

I captured this video to educate anyone considering Microlocs. They’ve become extremely popular in Houston over the last several years, and while they are beautiful, they require consistent maintenance and commitment.
Microlocs are NOT a low-maintenance hairstyle.
I recommend maintenance every 6–8 weeks at the longest. Excessive new growth creates a vulnerable point between the new growth and established loc, which can become more susceptible to thinning and breakage.
A few things to know:
• Microlocs require regular shampooing and proper scalp care, just like loose natural hair.
• Waiting too long between reties can contribute to tangling, marrying, thinning and breakage.
• Improper retightening techniques can weaken the loc over time.
• Tight ponytails, buns and high-tension styles can contribute to breakage, especially around the hairline.
• Microlocs are also a financial commitment. Maintenance in my salon is based on the time required, so more new growth or corrective work means a longer and more costly appointment.
Scalp health matters, too.
Having a diagnosed hair or scalp disorder does not automatically mean you cannot have traditional locs, Microlocs or Sisterlocks. Depending on the condition, its severity and how well it is managed, you can still have a successful loc journey.
However, if you have ongoing scalp inflammation or an uncontrolled hair/scalp condition, I strongly recommend addressing it before committing to locs. Certain conditions and persistent inflammation can contribute to thinning, shedding, breakage and, in some cases, follicular damage.
Before choosing Microlocs, ask yourself:
Do I have the time, consistency, scalp health and budget to properly maintain them?
Beautiful Microlocs aren’t just about the installation. The health and longevity of your locs depend on what happens afterward.
PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT accepting new Microloc maintenance clients at this time. However, if you already have Microlocs, Sisterlocks or traditional locs and are experiencing hair or scalp concerns, Trichology Consultations and Trichology Case Management are available.

A beautiful extension install should never require sacrificing the health of the hair underneath it.
One of the most important factors in protective styling is tension management. Repeated pulling on the follicle—especially around the hairline and other vulnerable areas—can contribute to breakage and, over time, traction-related hair loss.
That’s why my approach to extensions has changed as my knowledge of trichology has expanded.
I’m not simply considering how beautiful the finished style will be. I’m considering your scalp, your density, your natural hair, the weight of the extensions, braid placement and tension before the first track is installed.
Trichology-Based • Scalp-Focused • Tension-Free Protective Extension Installs
Premium Raw Hair available for purchase.
September appointments are now open. By appointment only.

WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER 2026 !🍂
As we enter the final four months of 2026, I want to encourage you to finish the year strong—not only with beautiful hair, but with a healthier approach to your hair, scalp and overall wellness.
For those who are new here, I’m Jasmine M. Spencer, Certified Clinical Trichologist, Licensed Cosmetologist and owner of Jazzie Hair Studio. For more than 16 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving women throughout Houston and surrounding communities—changing lives one head at a time.
To every client who has trusted my hands, referred a friend, shared my work, returned year after year or allowed Jazzie Hair Studio to be your salon of choice: thank you. Nearly two decades in this industry is something I don’t take lightly. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve you.
As a trichologist, one thing I wish more people understood is that healthy hair doesn’t begin with a hairstyle. It begins with understanding the body and the scalp.
Nutrition matters. Protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D and other nutrients are involved in normal hair growth and follicle function. When nutritional intake is inadequate—or an underlying health issue affects how the body uses nutrients—the hair can sometimes be one of the places we notice change.
Inflammation matters, too.
Chronic inflammation is associated with many health conditions, and certain inflammatory and autoimmune conditions can affect the scalp and hair follicles. Diets consistently high in added sugars can also contribute to poor metabolic health and inflammatory processes in the body.
And I want to clarify something you’ll sometimes hear discussed as “mucus in the body.” Mucus itself is not a toxin and does not travel to the scalp and come out as buildup. It’s a normal protective substance produced by the body. What we can see on the scalp are things such as excess sebum, scaling, inflammation, product accumulation and symptoms associated with conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis. Understanding that difference is exactly why evidence-based scalp education matters.
Your scalp can give us clues—but it cannot tell us everything happening inside your body.
That’s where trichology becomes valuable.
My work may include detailed hair and scalp assessments, trichoscope imaging, reviewing health and hair history, identifying potential contributing factors, developing personalized hair and scalp plans, monitoring cases over time and collaborating with healthcare providers when medical evaluation is appropriate.
And you do not have to become a salon client to work with me.
I provide Virtual Trichology Consultations and Trichology Case Management, including working alongside other hairstylists and hair-care professionals who want additional support managing their clients’ scalp and hair concerns. I also collaborate with healthcare professionals, and I am grateful that Jazzie Hair Studio has become a recommended resource for several local healthcare providers.
My goal isn’t to replace your stylist, dermatologist or physician.
It’s to help connect the dots.
September appointments are officially OPEN. If the appointment you want isn’t available, join the waitlist. And if you’re seeking trichology services, please submit your request even when the regular salon calendar appears full—trichology appointment requests are prioritized whenever possible.
Let’s finish 2026 stronger, healthier and far more informed than we started it.
I hope to see you soon. 🤎
