As an esthetician, I always remind parents that children’s skin isn’t just smaller—it’s different. It’s thinner, more permeable, and still developing. Areas like the neck and groin absorb products more readily, so it’s worth being intentional about what goes there. Research has raised concerns about repeated exposure to certain fragrance ingredients and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in some personal care products, as they may interfere with hormone signaling. Scientists are continuing to study their role in reproductive and hormonal conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, and fibroids. Children don’t need heavy fragrances to smell good—their natural scent after bathing is enough, or if you choose to use something, consider a simple, low-fragrance option or a thoughtfully made body oil instead, whipped butters, etc. This isn’t about fear or perfection; it’s about reducing unnecessary exposure whenever we can.
