Serendipity Tai Chi is not a style, it represents my philosophy of appreciating life's "happy accidents" that enrich and strengthen our lives and the lives of those around us. Tai Chi is a wonderful way to bring people together in peace, harmony, and health. Perhaps the one hour of gentle practice of Tai Chi may be the first relaxing moment in a busy day: a gift to ourselves that we all deserve! Taiji (Tai Chi) is an ancient form of Chinese exercise based on gentle self-defense movements emphasizing relaxation and better health through both mental and physical harmony. There is emphasis on improving flexibility, balance and coordination. You can re-learn how to walk, sit and stand the Taiji way to reduce wear and tear on the body.

* Guided practice in relaxation through the gentle movements.
* Strength building basic exercises through postures and slow movements.
* Improve mental focus.
* Improved balance and coordination will reduce the chance of injury causing falls.
* Increased flexibility helps combat joint stiffness and pain.
* Gentle strengthening exercises keep the muscles healthy and support the joints, especially the knees.

An honor to be recognized for my service to the Texas State Guard. It is indeed an honor to serve while still living my dream of Teaching Tai Chi. August marked my 36th year in Tai Chi!

I am the Texas State Guard: Gregory Illich

Over the next several months, the Texas State Guard will be spotlighting our service members from all walks of life, ranks, and professions. We will highlight their professional life (day job) and what they do for the Texas State Guard and why they joined. "They" don't make up the Texas State Guard. "We" are the Texas State Guard. Each individual is the Texas State Guard.

Today, we spotlight Gregory Illich, a business owner who teaches Tai Chi and is a massage therapist. Mr. Illich is also a Public Affairs Officer for the Texas State Guard and resides in the Houston, Texas area.

If you are new to Tai Chi or thinking about starting, keep in mind what your goals are, and what your big wish is. It could include overall health improvement, better balance, reducing back pain, improving flexibility, stress reduction or self-defense. The bigger your wish, the more attention you need to give to details in basics, daily practice training, etc. Just going to class once or twice a week will give you some benefits but may not allow you to reach all of your goals.

World Star Chinese Martial Arts Competition 11/06/2016

This is a very good Houston based tournament. I will be there participating as a judge. It is a great opportunity to see a lot of Chinese martial arts including Tai Chi and Push Hands. The variey of styles and arts is amazing. I recommend the Master's Demo Saturday evening. Ernie Wu does an excellent job hosting this event each year, and participants come from all over Texas as well as from out of State and out of the Country.

2012 Master's Demo-Greg.MOD 02/21/2012

We had a lot of fun at the tournament on February 18th, 2012. I enjoyed judging various open hand (weaponless) tai chi forms. This is a short video of Greg performing a more martial part of the 2nd section of the Secret Yang Style (Michuan) long form which features a significant amount of Fa Jin, or a sudden explosive release of energy in a wave like fashion. In this video, you will see it manifested in kicks, splitting (breaks), punches, and stomps.

2012 Master's Demo-Greg.MOD Greg Illich, Serendipity Tai Chi, demonstrates the last part of Second Section of the Long Form, Secret Yang Style (Yangjia Michuan), and two self defense ap...
