I’m not saying that hair shouldn’t be cut dry but truthfully, we are taught to cut the hair wet and then clean up on dry hair.

As a Cosmetologist:

We’re also taught to have clients uncross their legs and arms, sit up straight, and hold their head at a slight tilt.

We’re also taught to hold a throughly 3-5 minute consultation with every client prior to beginning their service.

We’re also taught to provide a scalp analysis to every client prior to every service, no matter how many times they’ve visited you.

As a cosmetologist, it is my responsibility to ensure that you, the client, is educated and capable of understanding what is going on with your hair and scalp.
Whether that means documenting what I see, smell, and feel. What products and chemicals are used in the hair, inside and outside the salon. Even down to the mediations that you may be taking that could possible affect your body which always affects your hair and scalp.

This client is now on the “Scalp Restoration Membership” which allows her to pay once a month and show up to be serviced twice a month. This service includes a shampoo, condition, scalp treatment or trim, and 4-6 cornrows (no hair added). This particular membership allows me to target your trouble areas on a strict routine basis.

Can you tell me the last time you sat in the chair?

When’s the last time you had someone else throughly detangle, shampoo, condition, and massage your scalp for 10-15 minutes. Not something quick just to have clean hair?!

I am NOT big in extensions but this was a subtle start.

I installed a quick weave on myself last year (2025), for my birthday. Though I do enjoy straight hair, my natural hair is medium to high density and has a lot of natural layers, my natural color level is a dark brown. This just wasn’t@full enough around the face for me.

I initially went into the beauty supply for inexpensive hair and found the ORGANIQUE brand. Unfortunately they didn’t have a #2 but they had a #4, so I went with that.

The next attempt will be with curly hair that is as close to my natural curl pattern as possible.

Tips to myself:
1. different brands carry different shades
2. Don’t be afraid of face framing
3. Buy more hair to achieve the thickness that i’d like.
