Like all great journeys there must be a goal...a reason...an unwavering need to complete something and for some reason. As most people know I am fairy well versed in telling the story of Cajun Cutters and its humble beginnings. I'm sure that you have heard about the borrowed equipment and Dad saying that he opened the company "so all his boys would have a place to work". In telling the story I always say that he had succeeded in his goal...and he did...but Dad's goal was way bigger than that.

Men are strange creatures; we can only be part of something bigger. We strive and strive for greatness and accomplishment, but we will only become part of something bigger and better than us. Our goals might be met with perseverance and sacrifice, but they are only enjoyed with the person who also endured these sacrifices.

The Bible says in Proverbs 39:10 - “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”

Dad had one, one worth far more than rubies and diamonds. One whose love for her husband, family, and faith far outweighs any riches of this world...our Gigi.

Now that I am older, I can look back and know the worry my Momma had in early 1987. Dad was still working at BWB but was on furlough due to economic uncertainty in the industry. Following some unforeseen events at BWB I'm sure Mom spent her time praying for her boys and her husband who was at a "fork in the road"...he could take a job in north Alabama building parts for NASA as a CNC Machinist or take the leap and start his own company"...we all know now that he chose the latter.

As I said before, I'm sure Momma was worried and unsure and like all great Daddies, Tommy needed a reason, so he said "it’s for my boys"...that was just what he said and it happened to work out. But I promise, he did this for my Momma...he did it so that "one worry" could go away.

Now, that came with many other worries but her middle name is Grace for a reason and she continues this legacy of Gracefulness.

Cajun Cutters would not be the family owned and operated company it is today without my Momma, she has always been the rock from which this business was built. Jesus had St. Peter and Daddy had Gigi. She held it together through times so very tough that the memories of them still bring me to tears. But also kept us grounded when the successes were high.

So, on the 39th Birthday of Cajun Cutters...and the first person to be celebrated...we honor Gena Aston for being more than a Wife and more than a Mom...thank you for being a secretary, machinist, driver, cook, cleaner, banker, check signer, psychiatrist, advisor, faithful prayer, and everyone's Gigi!

As of today, Cajun Cutters is now 39 years old! The business, my little sister, will enter into its 40th year of service.

What an accomplishment, what a story, and what a blessing you have been to so many.

The 40th year will be much more than just another benchmark or milestone…it will be a celebration of the perseverance and determination our family has pushed through for all of these years.

This year will bring about many different celebrations and memories for different things: people, customers, facilities, equipment, goals, community, and finally the celebration of Cajun Cutters 40th birthday on September 14, 2027.🎉 🎈 🎂

So, for September and October of 2026 we will celebrate the people. Every week we will share pictures and stories of individuals that have been part of our story…the Cajun Cutters Family Business Story.

So, be on the lookout for story number one today!
