🎶 **OOOH… WHAT'S THAT SMELL?!** 👀😂

I've had quite a few clients ask me about a certain smell lingering around the office lately.

Some of the descriptions I've heard include:

💬 "It smells like cheap w**d!"

💬 "It smells like an ashtray!"

And I'm over here wondering how many of y'all have walked in thinking I'm back here smoking Mary Jane or puffing on ci******es between massage sessions! 😂😭

**I PROMISE, IT'S NOT ME!**

The mystery smell is actually coming from a traditional Chinese medicine practice called **MOXIBUSTION**, which Callie, the acupuncturist next door, uses during some of her treatments!

Moxibustion involves burning an herb called mug wort (moxa) to produce therapeutic warmth. And yes, it has a VERY distinct, smoky, herbal smell!

Callie and I have actually discussed this, and she was kind enough to offer an alternative for anyone who is sensitive to the odor or simply doesn't care for it.

**If the smell bothers you, PLEASE let me know!** Callie can use a smokeless version to help accommodate those who are sensitive to it.

I put together this little educational slideshow to explain what moxibustion is, how it's used, and why you may occasionally notice that smell around the office.

So, mystery solved! 😂

And a special thank you to Callie for being so considerate of my clients! For more in depth questions about acupuncture OR moxibustion, feel free to contact Callie directly at Pierce Acupuncture!

There's really no reason not to get a massage... 😏

It’s simple. ❤️

The longest FULL BODY session I’ve ever done was 3 hours. 🌿

But yesterday, I completed my longest UPPER BODY ONLY session, which was 2 hours. 😎

And honestly… I’m kind of proud of myself for that. 🙂‍↕️

Not just because I was able to work one area for that long, but because it really made me stop and reflect on just how far I’ve come and how much I’ve learned.

A year ago, I would’ve freaked out or turned down the appointment because I would’ve thought, “There’s only so much I can do to one area before I run out of techniques, tools, or ideas.”

& that was actually my exact words to the client requesting it but this time I went into the session calm minded & determined to pull out every trick I know. 😎

I was able to stay focused, keep things intentional, switch up techniques, work with what the body was giving me, and somehow… 2 hours flew by.

It was honestly one of the best sessions I’ve done yet.

It took me back to massage school, when we were struggling just to make it through a 60-minute session. All of us just looking at one another with pleading "Help Me" eyes as we did our clinicals. 😂

Look at us now. Those were the days. 🥹

I’m proud of the therapist I was then, but I’m really proud of the therapist I’m becoming. 💙

One thing I get asked all the time by clients who are new to massage therapy, is "What are those scary lookin tools you have there? Do they hurt??"

Well, let’s talk about them and what we use them for! 🙃... & NOPE they don't hurt.

🌿 Gua Sha/Scraping - metal, glass, or stone tools used to help break up tension, promote relaxation & improve circulation.

🌿 Cupping/Cups - tools used to gently lift & separate skin, subcuntaneous tissue, superficial fascia, and deep fascia muscle layers. The lifting & separating of layers opens pathways that may have been tight & compressing on nerves or tendons.

ANNND you see that blue & black rolling tool beneath the cups?? 👀

That's just another awesome lil tool I use to tackle problem areas with as well as to relax you.

🌿 Rolling Tool - they come in bamboo, plastic, stone - some even come heated! They're used to loosen tension, promote circulation & support lymphatic flow by adding a soothing, rolling pressure to the muscles.

Hey everyone, good morning! ✨️

As much as I’d love to come in and massage people today, I don’t think it would be the best idea, especially since my current condition seems to be randomly running off to the bathroom. 😂 I don’t think anyone would really enjoy their massage if I had to keep disappearing in the middle of it.

I’m just going to take another day off and hopefully give my body the time it needs to fully recover. I’m hoping to be back at it tomorrow.

I also want to make sure I’m not risking getting anyone else sick, so I think taking one more day is the right thing to do.

You can still send over your massage requests or appointment questions today. If I don’t respond, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you for understanding! ❤️

Poor Thursday. 😭😂

She’s been sitting over here with all these open appointments, just waiting for somebody to give her a little attention.

I think she deserves better. 🙂‍↔️
