NeuroKinetic Therapy® & Motor Control

What is NKT?
NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT) is an advanced corrective movement system designed to identify and address the root causes of dysfunctional movement and coordination issues. It works by assessing and treating the motor control center in the cerebellum, where faulty movement patterns are stored and triggered. These patterns are then relayed through the spinal cord to the muscles, often causing inefficiency or pain. NKT taps into the brain’s ability to learn through trial and error, targeting these underlying dysfunctions to help restore proper movement and coordination at their source.

What is Motor Control Theory?
Motor Control Theory is the scientific study of how the brain, spinal cord, and muscles work together to produce and regulate movement. It explores how the nervous system learns, organizes, and adapts movement based on experience, environment, and injury.

A core idea in motor control theory is that the brain stores movement patterns, not just muscle functions. So when an injury or compensation occurs, the brain may adopt an inefficient pattern that becomes “normal” — even after the original injury has healed. Think of a baby learning to stand. Each time they try and fall, their brain stores bits of what worked — tiny successes within each failed attempt. Over time, as more successful information is gathered, the brain builds a complete movement pattern. Eventually, the baby stands with ease. That’s motor learning in action.

How NKT and Motor Control Theory Work Together?
NKT applies motor control theory by identifying these stored, dysfunctional patterns and reprogramming them using corrective exercises. Instead of just treating symptoms (like tight or weak muscles), NKT addresses the root cause of the dysfunction — often neurological — and helps the body relearn efficient, pain-free movement.
